Hoy hizo un hermoso día soleado en el occidente del país, el segundo día de Amanda en el país. La emoción en su rostro era palpable mientras nos preparábamos para una aventura especial: conocer vacas por primera vez. Aunque ella ya había visto algunas de lejos en su Brasil nata y seguramente algunas camino a casa, nunca había tenido la oportunidad de acercarse a ellas, tocarlas o jugar con sus adorables becerritos.

Today was a beautiful sunny day in the west of the country, Amanda's second day in the country. The excitement on her face was palpable as we prepared for a special adventure: meeting cows for the first time. Although she had seen some from afar in her native Brazil and certainly some on her way home, she had never had the opportunity to get close to them, touch them or play with their adorable little calves.
Con su mamá, que es veterinaria, al frente, y sus abuelos y su tío (mi pareja) acompañándonos, nos dirigimos a una granja cercana. Amanda no podía contener su emoción y no paraba de hacer preguntas y algunas veces saltaba. “¿Las vacas son grandes, tía?” preguntó con ojos brillantes. “¡Sí, muy grandes! Pero son amigables si las tratas con cuidado”, le dije, mientras su mamá (Ana) la guiaba y le daba algunos consejos sobre cómo acercarse a los animales.
With her mom, who is a veterinarian, leading the way, and her grandparents and uncle (my partner) accompanying us, we headed to a nearby farm. Amanda couldn't contain her excitement and kept asking questions and sometimes jumping up and down. "Are the cows big, Auntie?" she asked with sparkling eyes. "Yes, very big! But they are friendly if you treat them with care," I told her, as her mom (Ana) guided her and gave her some tips on how to approach the animals.
Al llegar a la granja, el aire fresco y el olor a ganado nos envolvieron. Amanda miraba a su alrededor, fascinada por el paisaje verde. Las vacas descansaban tranquilamente en el corral, y su mamá comenzó a explicarle algunos datos interesantes. “¿Sabías que las vacas tienen más de un estómago?” le dijo, mientras Amanda escuchaba atentamente, asintiendo con la cabeza.
As we arrived at the farm, the fresh air and the smell of cattle enveloped us. Amanda looked around, fascinated by the green landscape. The cows were resting quietly in the barnyard, and her mom began to explain some interesting facts to her. "Did you know that cows have more than one stomach?" she told her, as Amanda listened intently, nodding her head.
Nos acercamos a un grupo de vacas que se encontraban curiosas por nuestra llegada y que se acercaban a nosotros, sólo nos separaba la cerca de ellas. Amanda se detuvo en seco, un poco nerviosa, pero su mamá la animó a dar un paso adelante y acercarse junto a su tío. “No te preocupes, vida. Solo acércate despacio y háblales suavemente, tío te ayuda”, le dijo. Con un poco de timidez, Amanda extendió su mano y tocó el suave pelaje de una vaca. Su rostro se iluminó con una sonrisa de asombro. “La toqué, tía!” exclamó, y yo no pude evitar reírme de su alegría.
We approached a group of cows who were curious about our arrival and coming towards us, only the fence separated us from them. Amanda stopped in her tracks, a little nervous, but her mom encouraged her to step forward and approach next to her uncle. "Don't worry, life. Just approach slowly and talk to them softly, uncle help you," she told her. A little shyly, Amanda reached out her hand and touched the soft fur of a cow. Her face lit up with a smile of amazement. "I touched it, Auntie!" she exclaimed, and I couldn't help but laugh at her joy.
Nos movimos a la zona techada donde habían becerritos recien nacidos, Ana, su mamá, le mostró algunas maniobras para manear a los becerritos. “Recuerda, Amanda, siempre debes tener cuidado y no pasar por detrás de ellos, especialmente porque eres pequeña”, le explicó. Amanda escuchaba con atención, absorbiendo cada palabra. “¿Puedo intentar tumbar a un becerrito?” preguntó con curiosidad. Su mamá le explicó que era una técnica que se usaba en la granja, pero que era algo que ella aún no podía hacer por precaución. Yo me acerqué también a acariciar al becerrito que sólo tenía dias de nacido y capturamos el momento.
We moved to the area , her mom showed her some maneuvers to handle the calves. "Remember, Amanda, you must always be careful and not go behind them, especially because you are small," she explained. Amanda listened intently, absorbing every word. "Can I try to knock a calf down?" she asked curiously. Her mom explained that it was a technique used on the farm, but it was something she couldn't do yet as a precaution. I reached over to pet the calf, which was only days old, too, and we captured the moment.
Luego de compartir un rato en familia y con las vacas paseamos un poco por el campo y cuando ya caía la noche volvimos a casa para hacer cena y descansar.
After spending some time with the family and the cows, we walked around the countryside for a while and when night fell we went back home to have dinner and rest.
