Unlocking Memories On My Niece's Birthday!

Hey, make way, make way because it's my pretty niece's birthday. 🎉🎁🥳.
Oh, I'm so excited and grateful to God for keeping her to witness another year of her life.

As I scrolled through her WhatsApp status this morning, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride. Her words were that of a vibrant, fearless and confident young woman who's ready to conquer the world around her, and it made me feel like the proudest aunty ever. My niece, Adaoma, is truly making our family proud with her achievements and spirit.

While still admiring the beautiful photos she shared on her WhatsApp station, a sweet memory from four years ago came flooding back. As if on cue, Google sent me a memory notification on this same date, 3rd May 2021.

I quickly clicked on it and the throwback photos of her birthday celebration began to auto play in a sideshow, bringing back fond memories, which I'd share with you.

Having known that her birthday was soon approaching, I planned to give her a surprise treat by taking her to Kilimanjaro, a newly opened spot with a fast food joint and shopping mall to celebrate her special day. Little did I know that she was secretly hoping for the same thing, lol. Wondering how I found out? Don't worry, I'll tell you.

On the day of her birthday, I finished from work early and headed to my parent's house to execute my plan. She was staying with my parents then, attending senior high school. When I arrived there, my niece wasn't in the best of mood. I asked her what was wrong, and she broke down in tears. I waited for her to come around before asking again. She then told me that her dad had promised to take her out to celebrate her birthday, but he called to cancel due to an emergency and then moved it to Sunday when he would be available.

Seeing how disheartened she was, I tried cheering her up, telling her that it wasn't nice to feel sad on her special day. I added that since Sunday was just two days away, she should look forward to it. It was as if my words were rubbing it in because she cried even more. Then, I realized how much she wanted to celebrate on her actual birthday, so I asked her where she'd like to go. She said Kilimanjaro, in her not-too-happy voice. "Then Kilimanjaro it is. Go get dressed, let's go", I said. I also told my mum's helper to dress up too. She also needed a treat.

Hearing that, she jumped up with joy, wiped her face and quickly dressed up. Her once gloomy face suddenly became bright and radiant.

We got to Market square, explored the mall, took photos, and later went to Kilimanjaro to relax.

Since it was her day, I let order for all of us and she chose ice cream with donuts, which we all enjoyed.

After that, we picked take outs for my parents and then headed home. They're part of the celebration too, hehehe.

It was heart-warming to see her smile and have a special day. I'm glad I could step in and make her birthday memorable. Being able to put a smile on her face and make her day unique was truly satisfying.

Now, she's all grown up and away in the college, studying Public Health. So I sent her some money to have her favorite ice cream. She was thrilled to receive the money and that warmed my heart.

As today marks another beautiful year of her life, I wish her the best in the years to come. Life, health and wellness. More wins, accomplishments, and success in her academic pursuits. Happy Birthday to you, Ada! Love you loads🥰
