From your post it sounds to be mostly good overall. It's not always easy to spead extended times periods with your in laws. Sounds like your are making it work though.

I agree with you,😁 and that's why I sometimes don't use idioms. I would have thought otherwise too, and I trusted my interpretation based on hearing others use it, already knowing what the relationship they were referring to. However, I still doubted and had to look it up to confirm just now.
Seriously, though, if I had not heard the term before and it was a quiz to save my life, I would have guessed that it meant negative 🤣
