Hello, friends!
Today I want to tell you about one of the problems associated with nature and human activity. As I said earlier, I live in Siberia, in winter we often have frosts below minus 40 degrees Celsius.
With the construction of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, and then the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station, it turned out that relatively warm water passing through the dams from the depths of the reservoirs forms non-freezing sections of the Yenisei River about one hundred kilometers.
Some ducks took advantage of this phenomenon. Now these birds do not fly south with the onset of cold weather, but remain to spend the winter on the Yenisei River.
There have already been several dozen generations of ducks wintering in Siberia who do not know what seasonal migration is. Moreover, not all ducks stay for the winter; most birds, still with the arrival of cold weather, fly away to warmer climes. I wonder which birds remain?
The smartest ducks?
The laziest ducks?
The weakest ducks?
And anyway, how did the ducks suddenly learn that they don’t have to fly south? After all, for many millennia, the law of nature clearly stated that whoever did not fly to warmer lands died of hunger and cold. And now, every year, there are more and more ducks that do not fly south in the fall.
Probably, scientific ornithologists are studying this phenomenon, but somehow I have not seen any coverage of this problem in popular science literature.
