Hello, dear Hive community of bird lovers, this time I want to share a life experience that my friend @torrecoin90 and I have had. Have you heard of the Emerald Toucan? It's a rare bird with spectacular beauty and colors, making it one of the most beloved and appreciated birds of the Colombian Pacific. It's undoubtedly a gem worth sharing. But there's more. Not only do we have several shots of our peculiar friend, but also a complete collection of photos and videos where we capture a beautiful family of Emerald Toucans.
Hola querida comunidad de amantes de las aves de Hive, en esta ocasión quiero compartir una experiencia de vida, que junto a mi amigo @torrecoin90 hemos vivido. Han oído hablar el Tucán Esmeralda? Es un ave poco común y con una belleza y colores espectaculares, que lo hacen una de las aves mas queridas y apreciadas del Pacifico Colombiano. Sin duda es una joya que merece ser compartida. Pero hay mas, no solo tenemos varias tomas de nuestro peculiar amigo, si no una colección completa de fotos y videos donde registramos una hermosa familia de Tucanes Esmeralda.
At the Manzanillo Refuge, we had the pleasure of witnessing the reproduction and birth of a young Emerald Toucan. We named our little friend Tuca, and he was our pet guest for several months. After several days of analyzing and observing this bird, we realized it wasn't just one individual, but an entire family of these beautiful toucans.
En el Refugio el Manzanillo tuvimos la dicha de ver el proceso de reproducción y nacimiento de una cría e Tucán Esmeralda. A nuestro pequeño amigo lo llamamos Tuca, y fue nuestra mascota invitada por varios meses, después de varios días analizando y observando este ave, nos dimos cuenta que no solo se trataba de un ejemplar, si no de una familia entera de estos hermosos Tucanes.
We were inspired by our friend Tuca to launch an ecological campaign that seeks to plant native trees from the Colombian Pacific. For the sale of three Manzanillo promotional buttons, a native tree from one of these three species: Nacedero, Yarumo, and Chachafruto will be planted.
Nos inspiramos en nuestro amigo Tuca para iniciar una campaña ecológica, que busca sembrar arboles nativos del Pacifico Colombiano. Por la venta de tres botones publicitarios del Manzanillo, se sembrara un árbol nativo de entre alguna de estas tres especies, Nacedero, Yarumo, Chachafruto.
We went from never knowing the Emerald Toucan to having a whole beautiful family in our Biodiversity Refuge. I hadn't personally heard of this bird, and it was a great surprise to see its majestic presence and large beak. But like all good things in life, its presence was short-lived, as these are animals that enjoy moving and constantly changing location.
Pasamos de no conocer al Tucán Esmeralda, a tener toda una hermosa familia en nuestro Refugio de Biodiversidad. Personalmente no conocía este ave, y fue una gran sorpresa para mi ver su majestuosa presencia y gran pico. Pero como todo lo bueno en esta vida, duro muy poco su presencia, ya que son animales que disfrutan moverse y cambiar de lugar constantemente.
Habits and Behavior:
It normally resides in humid forests and lays its eggs in nests abandoned by woodpeckers. The male and female incubate the eggs for 15 to 20 days. The chicks are born blind and naked, requiring a safe place and feeding from their parents. After six weeks, the chicks are fully independent and ready to leave their parents' nest. Their diet is based primarily on seeds, but they may also eat insects, lizards, and the eggs of smaller birds. It is distributed in the Andes, from Venezuela to Colombia and part of Ecuador.
Hábitos y Comportamiento:
Reside normalmente en bosques húmedos, pone sus huevos en nidos abandonados por pájaros carpinteros, el macho y la hembra incuban los huevos de 15 20 días, los polluelos nacen ciegos y desnudos, por lo que necesitan un lugar seguro y ser alimentados por sus padres, después de seis semanas los polluelos son totalmente independientes y están listos para salir del nido de sus padres. Su alimentación se basa mas que todo en semillas, pero también pueden llegar a comer insectos, lagartijas, y huevos de aves mas pequeñas. Se distribuye en los Andes, desde Venezuela hasta Colombia y parte de Ecuador.
