Today, I watched Episode 1 of Season 1 of The Apprentice — the lemonade stand competition on the streets of New York.
From it, I not only learned useful business tips but also unexpectedly changed my original opinion of Trump!
In the show, two teams (male and female) competed to sell lemonade. The male team chose a fishy-smelling dock. One of them even had a crazy idea to sell a cup for $1,000. In the end, they worked hard but only made $40. The female team argued a little at first, but they quickly got organized. With their friendly attitude, they sold lemonade at $5 per cup (a high price) and finally made $160. The difference was obvious.
Trump said: "A bad location is deadly. To make money, you need to sell more, not speculate randomly." This sentence quickly pointed out the basic rule of business — creativity without real-world context is useless. As a team leader, you must focus on the key things and keep the team on the same page.
At this point, I looked past Trump's controversial label as a president and realized he's actually a very sharp and practical business observer. The biggest lesson from this episode is: In both work and business, no one cares how hard you try — they only care if you get results. (Whether you have a regular job or run a business, people don't notice your effort, only your outcomes.) Now I finally understand why this show has helped many people learn about business.
