Shopping malls the dying off. In Spokane, the North Town and Spokane Valley malls have a lot of empty spaces, and the big anchor stores Sears, JC Penney, and Macy's are either gone or struggling. In Coeur d'Alene, the Silver Valley Mall was bought by a local sporting goods store called Black Sheep and has been transformed into a variety of outdoor stores where there were no prior tenants, so the lingering typical mall stuff is interspersed with knives, tactical gear, backpacks, kayaks, and other departments. It's pretty neat, actually. If only urbex in abandoned malls around the country were easier and more legal.
