We really are spoilt here in the built up areas in the UK, countryside is totally different of course.

My dad loved trains and I remember when he came to Florida he got such a thrill hearing the horn on a train which we then got stuck at crossing at it went on and on and on! That was a freight train, I know my inlaws would drive from Florida to Colorado and Texas and other places and never took the train, so as many states that I have been to in the States I never did take a train!

We have a cargo train that runs the tracks right at the end of our neighborhood. Every now and then you hear the horn blowing when they get to the crossing around the corner. It makes the whole house shake. We don't really mind it though.

I imagine it is the sort of noise that if you don't hear it for a while that would be more unsettling, like have the zombies taken over already🤣
