Viewing Halloween as an ancient tradition is a story that, for many Latinos, was only seen in movies—some horror stories, others just another costume party.
Because it's an ancient tradition in other countries, it was considered acceptable by some religions, while for others it was a night like the one often portrayed: a night of witches. A night where stories of scares, the dead, tormented souls, and everything else associated with terror are woven together.
Countless terrifying movies parade across our TV screens, though I don't enjoy them and don't bother watching them; I only see the commercials. There are those who love this genre and eagerly await them, and now with movie apps, there's no need to wait. They search for the scariest ones and have a blast.

When I was a teacher, my feelings about this holiday were fixed. I didn't like having to include it in my lesson plans. First, because it's not part of our culture; second, because it went against my training; and third, accepting these celebrations meant giving free rein to festivities that don't belong to our culture.
These days, it's impossible to stop this celebration in our Latin American countries. Globalization has entrenched it, and it's here to stay. Every year, Halloween parties are held, offices are decorated, and cakes, cookies, and other sweets are made with Halloween themes.
A few days ago, I was talking to an acquaintance about his stance on this holiday. He sees nothing wrong with it; his view is that it depends on each person's interpretation. He told me that his son, in the neighborhood where they live, really enjoyed trick-or-treating last year. They even gave him a green onion, which caused a lot of laughter. His conclusion is that people demonize everything and that it's all about how you want to interpret it.

My perspective on this celebration hasn't changed; it's something beyond my control. The important thing is that I don't participate in this type of celebration, although I do see the stores, or some of them, decorated with masks, costumes, cobwebs, and other such things. Others view it from a purely financial perspective, seeing it as a business. Still others see it as just another costume party, albeit with different, scary outfits.

But regardless of these different perspectives, Halloween has its own meaning, as stated at the beginning of this piece. It's an ancient tradition, and there are things that explain why we should be cautious, and why it's seen as simply a costume party. There are many opinions, and everyone interprets it according to their own beliefs.
What is certain is that it is celebrated at the end of a month like October, and then November begins with All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day... then after so much terror comes the month of Christmas, dates that everyone has their own opinions about, and this is another celebration that has a little bit of everything according to each country's way of celebrating it and what traditions it has.

Mirar a Halloween como una tradición milenaria es una historia que para muchos latinos se veía sólo en películas, unas historias de horror como también historias donde se consideraba solo una fiesta de disfraces más.
Por ser una tradición milenaria en otros países, de acuerdo a religiones era bien visto aunque para otros era una noche como se divulga: una noche de brujas. Donde se tejen las historias de sustos, muertos, almas en pena y todo lo que se quiera decir del terror.
Un sin número de películas desfilan en nuestras pantallas del TV demasiado terroríficas, aunque no me agradan y no me detengo en ellas, solo veo la publicidad. Hay quienes les encanta este género y las esperan con ansias y ahora con las aplicaciones de películas no es necesario esperar, buscan las que más terror tenga y de esto hacen fiesta.
En un tiempo cuando me dediqué a ejercer la docencia mi pensamiento hacia esta fecha era irreversible, no me agradaba eso que tenía que reflejarla en mi planificación, primero porque no forma parte de nuestra cultura, segundo iba en contra de mi formación, tercero aceptar estas fiestas era dar la entrada a celebraciones que no se corresponde a nuestra cultura.
En estos tiempos es imposible parar esta celebración en nuestros países latinos, la globalización lo afianzó y se quedó, cada año se hacen fiestas con motivo de halloween, se decoran oficinas, se hacen tortas con motivos alusivos a la fecha, galletas y otros dulces más.
Hace unos días conversaba con un conocido, su posición a esta fecha: el no ve nada de malo, su mirada es como cada quien la interprete, me comentaba que su hijo en la urbanización donde viven disfrutó mucho el año pasado pidiendo dulces, hasta un cebollín le dieron y esto causó mucha risa. Su posición es que satanizan todo y que es como se quiera interpretar, es su conclusión.
Ya mi mirada acerca de esta celebración no es que ha cambiado, sino que es algo que está fuera de mi y no lo puedo controlar…lo importante es que no me sumo a este tipo de celebración, aunque si veo las tiendas, o algunas con esta decoración máscaras, disfraces, telarañas, otras. Otros lo miran desde este punto de vista el financiero y lo que se dice es un negocio. Otros lo ven como una fiesta de disfraces más aunque con diferentes trajes, de esos que den miedo.
Pero, en torno a estas miradas de cada quien, la fiesta de halloween tiene su significado como lo dice el principio de este escrito, es una tradición milenaria y allí suceden cosas de por qué hay que tenerle cuidado, y que es eso que se ve como una simple celebración de fiestas de disfraces. Son múltiples las opiniones y cada quien la toma de acuerdo a sus creencias.
Lo que sí es cierto que se celebra al final de un mes como es octubre, además inicia noviembre que entra con el día de los santos y de los muertos…luego después de tanto terror viene el mes de la Navidad fechas que también cada quien tiene sus opiniones y esta es otra celebración que tiene de todo un poco de acuerdo a cada país de cómo lo celebra y que tradiciones tiene.
