The last time I went for a visit in my maternal grandparents home, I was welcomed by a cat and for the first time being in contact with a cat, I shrieked with everything within me because I wasn't expecting to be welcomed by a cat and since nobody informed me beforehand about them having cat, it came as a surprise.
Well, I was later informed that it was my uncle cat, well, I wasn't shocked that he was the one who had the cat because this particular uncle of mine was the only one who loved to have and keep pets around and we are used to him having numerous if them but I wasn't expecting cat to be part of this numerous pets in the house considering the too many myths/superstitions beliefs I have heard about them.
I know that I am not a lover of having pets around because I am afraid of them turning against me one day but except that, I have too many numerous stories about pets kept at homes including cat that even before I was opportuned to have anyone around where i stay or live, I had concluded in my heart never to go near them.
I may not have heard a direct contact with cat because I always stay far away from them and always advise the owners to keep them away from me because I am not a fan of animals or pets, like I have phobia for animals, so it's best I don't get close to them and perhaps my phobia could be the reasons why I don't want them around or perhaps generated fears from the stories I have read and heard about them.
Anyone who is from my country Nigeria can attest that back then, when it comes to cat, the myths/superstitious beliefs that surrounds them made many homes not to have cats around them, but in this generation, many things have come to light making it easier for many homes to look beyond the myths/superstitions they were made to believe right from conception and so now, homes are beginning to adopt the idea of having cats in their homes and as pets.
Today, we go to homes and find people keep animals like cat as pets in their homes and find them not neglecting them but taking care of them like they would with their other pets and that makes it incredible because years back it wasn't like this, some even go to the extent of giving their cats names just like they would do with their dog pets.

Back then, the myths that came with cats was that they were oftentimes used as a carrier of evil. Like witches and wizards could easily dwell in them, which makes it easier for them to be transported to their intending destination to cause harm to whomever or families they which to cause harm to.
Also, many people believe that seeing cats, the first thing in the morning when one wakes up is a bad omen, but then, care to wonder about those who have their cats pet lying around most times in their bedrooms. Lol, are you thinking what I am thinking right now?
Another superstitious beliefs that made the rounds was about how cats has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays and for the last three he stays, now imagine having an animal/creature that has nine lives.
There is this anxiousness and fear that comes with hearing the cry of cats in the night, we were meant to believe that when we hear the cry in the night, it means some evil activities are being carried out. Cats were naturally attributed to witches/wizards, and because they were rarely seen in the day, when heard in the night, it feels like this myths about them is true.
I have also heard of cats being able to in complete or total darkness which is not entirely true, well no doubt that their corneas are much thinner than ours which enable them to be able to see in low levels of light and their irises is open far wider which allows more light to enter but about them being able to see better in total darkness is a big myth.
Fact is, they are much better adapted than us at seeing in low levels of light but many people also fail to realize that cats also have a highly developed reflective area in the back of their eyes and this is what makes them glow at night when caught in our headlights.
Regardless of how many have finally accepted cats as one of the pets kept at home, I still can't stand them and do not want them around me because they scare me a lot.
