Before the tournament started I gave predictions as to how the groups would finish. How did I do?
Group | Prediction | Actual | % correct |
---|---|---|---|
A | India; Pakistan; USA; Ireland; Canada | India; USA; Pakistan; Ireland; Canada | 60% |
B | Australia; England; Scotland; Namibia; Oman | England; Australia; Namibia; Scotland; Oman | 20% |
C | West Indies; New Zealand; Afghanistan; Papua New Guinea; Uganda | West Indies; Afghanistan; New Zealand; Uganda; Papua New Guinea | 20% |
D | South Africa; Bangladesh; Sri Lanka; Netherlands; Nepal | South Africa; Bangladesh; Sri Lanka; Netherlands; Nepal | 100% |
That's not too bad. In all I got 50% of the teams in their correct places and out of the teams to qualify for the Super Eight stage, I got 6 correct, so 75%. I just really didn't see Pakistan and New Zealand having the struggles they did.
Now on to some match stats.
In 40 games three had teams score over 200: Australia & Sri Lanka 201; West Indies 218.
Uganda scored fewer runs in their four games, 215, than West Indies in their final, 218.
Four Games were Abandoned due to rain, three of them in Florida. (I don't understand why there aren't reserve days for rain affected games. And I don't know why Matches weren't switched from Florida when the rain was clearly an issue.)
Five percent of matches, two, went to a super over. The average over all T20 internationals is 1.4%
Let's look at some boundary stats.
Game | 4's | 6's | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tournament | 637 | 330 | 967 |
Average Per Match | 15.925 | 8.25 | 24.175 |
The most boundaries so far are from Australia with 88, West Indies are on 87.
At the other end Uganda are far and away the lowest boundary scorers with 13, only one of them was a 6.
And talking of sixes, Scotland and West Indies are joint top with 34, although that's as far as Scotland's total will go. That's a shame, because they are the only team to have their 6's level with their 4's
And I think that's enough numbers. Check back tomorrow for a Super Eight preview.
