Match One West Indies 218/5 v 114 all out Afghanistan West Indies WIN
The USA got the Group stage of this world cup off to a great start in their match with Canada. In this fortieth and final game of this stage co-hosts West Indies closed it with a commanding performance.
218 is the highest innings of the tournament so far, and Nicholas Pooran's 98 the highest individual score. Seven Afghanistan bowlers tried their best, but only 5 wickets fell. In Noor Ahmad there was the sole bowler who could impose some control ont he batting onslaught. He took no wickets, but conceded only 20 runs in his four overs.
Still, batting is only half the job. Now the West Indies also had to bowl. They five bowlers put their foot on their oppositions neck, and pressed hard. Two bowlers were out for ducks, another three failed to get into double figures. Zadran's 38 was a high spot but the Association team were up against a Test team who are growing into the competition
