My wife and I drove down to Ohio for the night yesterday to watch my niece play softball with her high school team. They were facing an opponent that they haven't been able to beat in the six years or so that my nieces have played for their school.
Unfortunately, history seemed to have repeated itself as they put up a good fight, but they ultimately fell once again to one of their local rivals. Oddly enough, the loss didn't hurt them too much. Despite the fact that they were expecting to have a bit of a lack luster season, they now find themselves in a four way tie for first in their league.
I actually feel like the team could be really good if they had a different coach or a little bit better coach. The current one makes some decisions and moves that just don't seem to make sense sometimes. There are specific players that he ends up wearing down and it doesn't give the other players a chance to shine.
For example, they have something like four pitchers on their team, but he keeps having the same one throw pretty much every game. When games go long and she ends up throwing over 100 pitches, it starts to show by the end of the week.
For example, earlier in the week they actually beat a team that on paper they shouldn't have been able to. It was a pretty big win for them though. Unfortunately by the third game of the week, all the gas in their proverbial tank was pretty much spent.
I really wish the ladies could have taken the win last night, but unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. My niece still seemed to be in pretty good spirits last night.
She continues to do her best personally even if as a team they sometime struggle.
Even with the loss, it was still go to watch her out on the field. She had some good plays in the infield as usual and she also hit the ball pretty well against some really good pitching.
