It's very apt that the mascot for Tiffin is the Dragons because as the title of this post suggests, that team has been fire this season. Before I get to them though, I want to talk a little bit about my other niece who is playing on her high school varsity team.
She had a softball game on Monday night and it was a big 14 to 5 win over their local rivals. This team usually does pretty well against my nieces school, but on this night things were going in favor of the Shamrocks. Too bad Golden Bears.
I don't have the specific stats, but my niece once again had a pretty amazing game with a lot of production at the plate and some really good plays in the infield. Her team is back in action tonight against another local team in the Columbus metro area. It's hard to believe the team is only 4 - 4 in conference play for as well as they seem to be doing.
Radford University is going to be very lucky to have her joining their ranks next year.
Okay, back to Tiffin. They had a double header against Wayne State University yesterday down in the heart of Detroit, MI. It was another sweep for the Dragons with a 7 to 1 win in the first game and a 10 to 4 win in the second game. The offense continues to pile on the runs for the Dragons and the pitching is throwing fire.
I noticed the other day that in the division 2 rankings, Tiffin moved from #22 to #21 this week. If they keep winning they might find themselves in the top 20 before too long. This is a really great achievement for the team. I know the coaching staff has been building towards this for a couple of years now.
They inherited a team with a lot of "locked in" players that they had no choice but to keep on. As those players have started to graduate and move on, the coaches are now building a team that is 100% their own and it is definitely starting to show.
I look forward to seeing how far of a run this team can make in the post season.
