I have a secret to tell you... I didn't stay up to watch the men's basketball games last night. In fact, I didn't even make it to halftime of the Alabama/BYU game. How sad is that. As much as I love sports, it's just not something i can put a priority on when I have to get up at 4:30 AM for work the next day. Maybe if they had them all on the weekend it would be different.
I know they have a tight schedule they are trying to keep. It's just one of those things.
I was a bit surprised to wake up this morning and find that pretty much every single game went just about the way you would have expected. What I mean is there were no massive upsets and though one of the games was close, the other three were pretty much blow out wins.
The higher seeded team proved that they have every right to be in the Elite Eight and again if I am being honest, I hope that is the same thing that happens tonight.
As I said, most of the games weren't even close. Alabama beat BYU 113 to 88. That's a pretty massive spread right there. In fact, that spread was big enough that it almost won me some money in the parlay bet I placed.... almost....
Duke had a bit tougher time, but they still beat Arizona 100 to 93. I know, it's not a huge margin, but when you consider they still put up 100 points, that's definitely something. Florida beat Maryland 87 to 71, that means my bracket is still pretty intact since I had Florida beating Duke in the final. I have to admit though, with the scores that Alabama has been putting up. They are looking like a real contender for the title right now.
Finally, we have the Arkansas/ Texas Tech game that went into overtime before Texas Tech pulled out the 85 to 83 win. I think that might be the first overtime game we have had this post season. If not the first it is one of the few.
I'm pretty nervous going into tonight. I really want Michigan State to do well and I really want Michigan to lose. I have this bad feeling in my gut the opposite is going to happen though. Call me a fatalist, but I just have this dread standing over my shoulder breathing down my neck.
Finally, the Tigers had a tough battle yesterday, but eventually fell to the Dodgers 5 to 4 in the season opener. They face them again tonight at 10 PM. It would have been cool if they could have beat them, but Detroit didn't really get going until the end of the season last year, so they still have plenty of time.
Months to be exact...
It will be interesting to see what the college basketball landscape looks like on Monday when all the dust has settled and the Final Four are determined. I'm not even going to try and guess....
