While we wait for basketball to start back up again in a couple of days, it is important to remember that softball is still taking place. In fact, we are just about halfway through the season now and things are really starting to look pretty good for the Tiffin Dragons.
After their double header sweep of Northwood University the Lady Dragons had a couple other games in Michigan to take care of. They actually were supposed to cover all the games in one weekend, but because the weather wasn't looking great on Sunday, they move those games at Northwood to the Wednesday before. That just left a showdown with Hillsdale College on Saturday.
We actually watched the stream of the games at home and my niece who is on the team was with us because she was up visiting with her daughter. As the first game was in progress and it was looking like Hillsdale was going to win, my niece said it was actually a good thing. After an 11 game winning streak she said the team was getting a little cocky and they needed to be reminded that it takes hard work to be successful.
She said some of the other players on the team actually felt the same way. They had their wishes answered as they fell 5 to 2 to Hillsdale in the first game. That five runs was two more runs than they had given up the previous 11 games or something like that.
Thankfully, the loss was the shock they needed and in the second game they bounced back and won 4 to 3. From there, they had two games against Lake Erie College on April 1st and it was back to their winning ways with a sweep 7 to 0 and 11 to 3 in five innings. The pitching has really been spot on for these ladies lately and I look forward to seeing if they can keep the momentum up and extend this three game winning streak as long as the last one.
It should also be pointed out that over the last doubleheader, the head coach earned her 100th win. That's definitely something to be proud of right there! Well done coach!
The Dragons are supposed to be back in action today at Wayne State University in Detroit, but I am wondering if the weather will allow it. Michigan is getting hammered with some rain, ice, and snow today.
Funny story... After a sweep the ladies usually get to go out for ice cream as a special treat from the coach. My niece was telling me the other day that they were actually getting sick of ice cream because they had been winning so much.
Meanwhile, her younger sister is now home from their Spring Break trip to Tennessee and the softball games they played down there. They had their first game back in Ohio last night and it was a tough loss in a short game that saw a lot of offense on their opponents side.
Despite this diversity, my niece is still shinning and I think at this point she is probably just looking forward to travel ball starting!
