Despite my comments last week that there was more than just football on this past weekend, I still didn't watch very much basketball. Friday night @mrsbozz and I spent the evening watching the stream of our nieces game from down in Ohio. They had a tough match up against their rival in the next district. Sadly, they played pretty horribly. What should have been a win for them ended up being a home loss. It was quite disappointing.

We drove down to Ohio to meet them for lunch on Saturday and there was very little talk about the game the night before. I knew my niece was probably already upset at their performance, so there wasn't much point in rubbing it in.

My other niece is doing her travel volleyball thing, so I would imagine we are going to need to get to one of those matches when the make their way back to Detroit.

Division II softball starts this weekend and Division I started last weekend. My oldest niece is going to be traveling to Nashville to play in a tournament there this coming weekend. I am hoping that I will be able to watch some of the games via streaming.

Friday night there were two games in the top 25 played on the men's side of college basketball. They were both upsets actually. The first was VCU taking down #18 Dayton 49 to 47. Then we had #24 San Diego State falling to Nevada in overtime 66 to 70. You might remember I told you to put some money down on that one. I didn't follow my own advice and I missed out on a payday.

Saturday there were an insane 21 games played. I guess they had to get them all in before the Superbowl on Sunday.

I did put money on the LSU/#16 Alabama game like I mentioned in my post, but unfortunately, that one didn't turn out in my favor. LSU kept the game pretty close up till halftime, but then Alabama just ran away with it putting up a massive 109 points in regulation.

#11 Wisconsin continues to slide first falling to Michigan, then falling to Rutgers Saturday 78 to 56. I really wish it had been Michigan State that beat Wisconsin, but they made up for it on Saturday by beating #10 Illinois 88 to 80. It was a very good game. I watched the replay when we got home from having lunch.

Will it be enough to get the Spartans into the tournament? That remains to be seen. They need to finish strong the rest of this season and get some big wins in the Big 10 Tournament if they want to have a chance.

Florida added to the upsets with a win over #12 Auburn 81 to 65.

I did put some money down on Gonzaga to upset #17 Kentucky at home and they didn't let me down winning 89 to 85 and earning me a couple of bucks. #13 Baylor wasn't able to follow suit against #4 Kansas though and their loss cost me another dollar.

UNLV took down #25 New Mexico 80 to 77 and Texas A&M stunned #6 Tennessee 85 to 69.

Sunday there was only one top 25 game played on the men's side. It went into overtime but #20 Florida Atlantic scratched out a win over Wichita State.

Finally, last night we saw #9 Duke take down Wake Forest 77 to 69, and Texas Tech upset #6 Kansas 79 to 50. It must have been a really off night for the Jay Hawks.

Check back tomorrow when I cover some of the Women's Basketball action from the past weekend.
