You might remember the other day I was poking fun at Michigan and Nebraska and the fact that they didn't even combine to score 100 points in their recent game. Well, jokes on me because last night Michigan State had their own pretty miserable game against Maryland. Well miserable until the last couple of seconds that is.
With the score tied at 55 to 55, overtime was all but ensured after the miss from outside the arc by Maryland. Then the miracle happened. Michigan State gets the rebound, shuffles the ball to Holloman and with just a fraction of a second left on the clock he heaves the ball from well past mid court and drains it to give Michigan State the 58 to 55 win on the road.
This is why I love college basketball.
What an amazing way to end a game that was pretty lackluster. Sure, it could be argued that defense was on point this game and that isn't anything to be down played. I can agree with that. Maryland is a good team with a lot of scoring potential. The fact that Michigan State was able to hold them to so few points throughout the game is pretty special. Likewise the same can be said going the other way. Michigan State struggled to make shots and turnovers once again plagued them.
There were a couple other games on over the past few days, but I am not sure any of them were quite as exciting as this one.
Tuesday we had nine games in the top 25. Georgia had a huge upset over (3) Florida 88 to 83, and Oklahoma State took down (9) Iowa State 74 to 68. Finally, I want to point out that (6) Alabama totally throttled (24) Mississippi State 111 to 73.
Vanderbilt once again played the spoiler beating (12) Texas A&M 86 to 84. Although they aren't ranked, I have little doubt Vandy will make it to the tournament and if they do, be ready for them to break some brackets. (1) Auburn had a massive 106 to 76 win over Ole Miss as well on Wednesday during the nine top 25 games that were on.
(17) Kentucky had a close call just edging past Oklahoma 83 to 82.
That's all I have for today. I just couldn't help but highlight the epic ending to the Michigan State game last night. I'm still kind of reeling to be honest!
