It was a good run....

Unfortunately, more than one dream was shattered this past week as far as sports go. I was sitting at home last night watching my niece play in her basketball playoff game when I realized the school district I work for was also in the playoffs. I brought up the boys game on my laptop while I was watching my niece down in Ohio on the TV.

The photo above gives you a pretty good idea of what my evening looked like.

Unfortunately, as I said, the results weren't exactly what we were hoping for. The school I work for was playing the school that my best friend attended and it's safe to say it was nothing short of a tragedy. At the end of the first quarter, the other team had something like 36 points and our team had zero. Yeah, you read that right. It was a tough night for the boys.

They couldn't get anything to fall.

Meanwhile, my nieces team had a very close playoff game against some Catholic school down in Ohio. I really think they could have won if they had played a little differently, but ultimately it was the same issues they have been dealing with all season that led to their downfall.

They ended up losing by six points and their run in the playoff's is now finished for the season. As I said in my post yesterday, my niece probably doesn't care too much because now she can focus on softball which is her real passion, but it's still a little sad.

Especially given the fact that I know they could have won. There was no doubt in my mind. The other team didn't blow them away, they just got lucky. I know that's probably the sore loser sort of thing to say, but it's honestly the truth. My nieces team is really impressive when they are taking smart shots, playing both sides of the ball, and fighting for rebounds.

Meanwhile, this past weekend, I had my own brush with heartbreak. Just for fun I decided to put in a long shot 19 leg parlay bet. If you don't know much about betting, a 19 leg parlay is just insane. Most the time you are lucky to get a two leg parlay to hit, let alone 19, the odds are just astronomical.

As you can see, it had +130238 odds of hitting. That means if I had bet $10 I could have stood to win like $13,000. Since I only bet $1 I had the chance of winning $1300 or so. Still not too bad right?

Besides it being a 19 leg parlay, there was also the fact that it was a bet on soccer which I really know nothing about.

Imagine my shock when I checked my betting app later only to find out that I had missed the parlay by a single leg. That's right all 18 other legs hit, but one of them missed. A lot of times you can cash out early if it looks like you are going to win the bet. Unfortunately for me, the leg that missed was too early in the bet that it wouldn't have mattered.

I don't know who Middlesbrough or Plymouth are, but they can freaking shove off for not scoring over 2.5 goals in the match.

What a shame!

Sort:

wow dude, that 18 for 19 on the parlay is amazing. You getting that close is like missing the lotto jackpot by a single number especially if you were thinking "should i pick 15 or 16?" and you chose 15 but the hit was on 16. Oh well, that's still $1 well spent!

Yeah, I just wish I could have had the cash out option. I might have been able to pull at least $600 or $700 out from that $1. Unfortunately, I didn't think it ever had a chance, so I really didn't pay attention. Plus the leg that missed happened pretty early in the parlay.
