It was a pretty awesome weekend for the Lasers Scarlet team as they started their summer travel ball season down in Ohio. Unfortunately, Sunday evening bad weather moved in and it forced them to cut the tournament short. I'm not even sure they bothered to give out awards or anything like that. @mrsbozz and I just happened to be camping in Eastern, Michigan, so we had to settle for watching the games via streaming.
As you can see from the photo above I brought my laptop so I could use Bluestacks player to stream the Game Changer app on my display. We sat out under the awning and we watched the magic happen.
It all started on Saturday morning with a 16 to 0 win over the Ohio Knockouts. Then later in the morning they played the Cincy Slammers and had a narrow 3 to 2 victory. Finally, they finished pool play later in the day with a 9 to 1 win over Central Ohio Pride.
This should have given them a pretty good ranking for bracket play on Sunday.
Bracket play started at 11 AM on Saturday morning for them and they had another impressive 12 to 0 victory over the GC Vipers 16U team. Finally, the last game they played before the storms came was a 5 to 4 win over Finesse McBrayer.
That was actually a really close game. It was tied 4 to 4 in the last inning of the game, with the bases loaded and two outs. My niece hit double in the open field to score two runs and give them the walk off victory.
That's 45 runs across five games, not bad at all if you ask me. The first game of the weekend it was actually 14 to 0 at the end of the first inning. My nieces coach actually had them purposely get an out so that he could stop the bleeding for the other team. I think that was the sportly thing to do. It was pretty clear the game was going off the rails fast.
My niece also had some really good defensive plays. The camera didn't always catch it, but we could hear people cheering for her and telling her great job as an inning was closing out. It was really cool to watch. I am looking forward to heading down in a couple of weeks to watch her play in person.
It's going to be a fast and furious pace for her now that summer ball has started. I don't know if she gets a single weekend free between now and August. I'm not sure she would have it any other way though!
