We got some good boxing in today on DAZN with fights taking place in Saudi Arabia. Everyone came to fight today, no Tom and Jerry action on what was a solid card overall. I watched most of the fights and was just happy to get some good action in today after no fights last week, and not getting the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Jr. fight, which was supposed to be tonight...
Ray Ford looked really good against his opponent, Abraham Nova. Nova didn't back down and was tough, but just couldn't land punches at the rate that Ford landed. Ford stayed busy and used his hand speed and athleticism to outbox Nova throughout the fight.
I was excited to see David Adeleye on the card. Not the most skilled fighter, but he's not boring and as tough as they come. Adeleye landed early with a punch that left a huge cut above Hrgovic's eye, but that wasn't enough to keep Hrgovic off of him throughout the fight. Adeleye was fatigued early, and although he did have his moments landing big shots and hurting Hrgovic at times, he was outworked and outboxed throughout the fight.
Nick Ball vs Sam Goodman was a really interesting fight. It was the only fight with a title on the line and was the fight of the day in my opinion. Sam Goodman came out strong, landing good combinations, controlling distance, working his angles, and getting rough with Ball in the clinch. But Ball just kept coming, punching his way inside and landing some big shots. Ball worked from behind his guard, found opportunities to throw combinations of his own, and did what it took to successfully defend his title.
I liked Nick Ball's style though. Hopefully we get to see him in another big fight soon, maybe a fight with Inoue...
The main event, Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte, ended like I thought it would, but as you can see from the highlights, the fight was a lot shorter than I expected. Dillian Whyte looked ready. He came into the fight in great shape, but couldn't hang in there with the hand speed and pop of a young Moses Itauma. Ituama showed crazy skill from the sound of the bell, getting the vet out of there in a single round.
Everything is looking up for Itauma right now. I don't think he's ready for a fight with Usyk just yet, but I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Fabio Wardley or even Joseph Parker depending on how long Usyk will be out with his injury.
Let me know how you feel about the main event in the comments!
Is Dillian Whyte done after this latest knockout?
Is Moses Ituama ready to be a world champion now?
