If food makes you happy, then you might be fat but it will be easy to buy happiness!
Not my saying but a friend of mine said this long ago and it stuck in my mind. Well, I may not fully agree with the dept of the saying or present a different perspective; but I believe we all would agree that food does make us happy sometimes. NO?
And there's nothing better than a homecooked, warm, and comforting meal. Restaurant food can be mouthwatering but the comfort I found in homecooked meals and my mom's cooking; nothing can come closer to that.
During my last visit to my mom's place was full of trying different meals. From breakfast to dinner, my mom tried to feed me my favorite food because I couldn't make time to visit her often. And I gained some weight and have no regret about it either.
Let me show you some of my plates.
I would give these two meals the first and second if there would be any price.
There's nothing special in this. Just rice with some mashed vegetables that we call "vorta" and some "Dry Fish Curry". This is something I crave, this is the food I grew up eating. Simple, not over-flavoured with different spices. But they are close to my heart.
Then I would place these meals third and fourth. They are "Polao" and "Biriyani" accordingly.
If you know about Bangladeshi cuisine then you may know that Birinay is something very connected to our culture as well. No ceremony, occasion, or welcoming guests can be done without these two special meals.
These two were prepared by my elder sister when she invited us to her home.
The post would not fulfilled if I didn't show my cooking skills, right?
These two meals were prepared by me. They are nothing special, just rice with chicken curry and vegetables. But the warmth of a homecooked meal, the simple flavor of the dishes is what makes it special.
I wish someday my son would say the same things about his mom's cooking as we say about our mom.
Food is not just something to fulfill our stomach or craving but it's an emotion. Traditional foods are closer to our hearts. It is something that can make us happy, no doubt. And it is something that shows our dedication, culture, lifestyle; everything. Right?
So which plate you would choose from the above?
