Lentil soup with smoked bones and pork ribs (Eng/Esp)

A delicious lunch brought us together. This time, I wanted to surprise my family with something new, which was also a challenge since it was my first time making lentil soup with smoked bones and pork ribs. I also added vegetables and corn to give it a genuine Cumaná touch. This soup is a very complete dish. Even a small portion leaves me feeling really satisfied, but the most important thing, without a doubt, was sharing it with my parents, my husband, and my daughter.

Ingredients:

  • 400 grams of lentils
  • 1 1/2 kg of vegetables (2 ocumos, 3 yuccas, 2 chacos, and 1/4 pumpkin)
  • 1 corn cob
  • 3 potatoes
  • 2 carrots
  • 16 chili peppers
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1/2 kg of smoked bones
  • 1/2 kg of pork ribs
  • 4 liters of water
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

The night before, I put the lentils in water and left them in the refrigerator so they would be soft and ready for the soup, which I would start preparing at 11 a.m.

I washed the vegetables and rubbed oil on my hands to tackle the taro and emerge victorious 😂. I peeled them all and then chopped them into pieces.

I cleaned the seasonings and removed the seeds from the chili peppers, using water to prevent them from sticking to my skin. I chopped everything, including the onion.

Next, I washed the potatoes and carrots and cut them into large pieces.

I crushed the garlic, removed the skins, and crushed them again until they were dissolved.

I boiled 4 liters of water with 1 tablespoon of salt, added the smoked bones and ribs, cooked them thoroughly, and when they were ready, I cut them up and returned the pieces to the pot.

Then I added the yuccas, as they are the vegetables that take the longest to soften. I checked that they were cooked with a fork and then added the other vegetables. I put a lid on to speed up the cooking.

A few minutes later, I added the lentils. I took the opportunity to adjust the salt.

I left it for several minutes and when I thought the soup was ready, I added the garlic.

I like thick soup, hence the amount of water suggested. It turned out delicious, a dish worthy of a family celebration.

Un delicioso almuerzo nos reunió, esta vez quise sorprender a mi familia con algo nuevo, lo cual también representaría un reto ya que era mi primera vez preparando sopa de lentejas con huesos ahumados y costilla de cerdo. También le agregué verduras y jojotos para darle un toque genuinamente cumanés. Esta sopa es un plato muy completo, con una porción pequeña me siento realmente satisfecha, pero lo más importante, sin duda, fue compartir con mis padres, mi esposo y mi hija.

Ingredientes:

  • 400 gramos de lentejas
  • 1 y 1/2 Kg de verduras (2 ocumos, 3 yucas, 2 chacos y 1/4 de auyama)
  • 1 maíz
  • 3 papas
  • 2 zanahorias
  • 16 ajíes
  • 1 cebolla grande
  • 1 cabeza de ajo
  • 1/2 kilo de huesos ahumados
  • 1/2 kilo de costilla de cochino
  • 4 litros de agua
  • Sal al gusto

Preparación:

La noche anterior coloqué las lentejas en agua y las dejé en la nevera para que estuvieran blandas y listas para la sopa, cuya preparación iniciaría a las 11 de la mañana.

Lavé las verduras, me unté aceite en las manos para enfrentarme al ocumo y salir victoriosa 😂. Les retiré las conchas a todas y luego las piqué en pedazos.

Limpié los aliños y extraje las semillas de los ajíes, este proceso lo realicé con agua para que no se adhiera ninguna a la piel. Corté todo, incluyendo la cebolla.

Posteriormente, lavé las papas y zanahorias y corté en fragmentos grandes.

Trituré los ajos, les quité las conchas y volví a machacarlos para que quedaran disueltos.

Monté 4 litros de agua con 1 cucharada de sal, agregué los huesos ahumados y las costillas, esta la puse completa y cuando estuvo lista, la corté y devolví los pedazos a la olla.

Luego agregué las yucas ya que son las verduras que más tardan en ablandar. Con un tenedor certificó su cocción y luego agregué las otras verduras y las hortalizas. Coloco una tapa para apresurar la cocción.

Minutos después, añadí las lentejas. Aproveché para ajustar el punto de sal.

Dejé varios minutos y cuando consideré que estuvo lista la sopa agregué los ajos.

Me gusta la sopa espesa, de allí la cantidad de agua sugerida. Esta quedó deliciosa, un plato digno para festejar en familia.
