A Mayan city that was thought to be lost by experts has been discovered in Guatemala.
Experts have named this city 'Los Obelos'. This city offers a stunning example of the ancient history and intricate architecture of the Mayan civilization.
It was discovered near the Petén region of northern Guatemala. It is approximately 3,000 years old and dates to the Middle Preclassic period (ca. 800–500 BC).
A pyramid measuring about 108 feet high has also been found in the city, bearing early inscriptions. It also has a system of natural aqueducts that represent a complex water system.
It also contains humanoid stone sculptures, possibly representing ancient ritual worship. The discovery is part of an unknown urban triangle, with Los Obelos and two other nearby sites likely part of a coherent urban structure.
LiDAR technology has discovered more than 60,000 hidden Mayan structures in the Petén jungles of Guatemala, such as houses, palaces, elevated roads, and defensive structures, indicating a population and urban system far greater than common Western expectations
