Hi community!
The LOSC Lille striker is shining this season and openly acknowledges his desire to play for the Catalan club.
Real Madrid had not lost a Champions League match since May 2023, until they met LOSC Lille last October in a match in which Jonathan David scored the goal that knocked out the Whites on the second day of the top European competition. A special goal not only for what it meant to his team, but also because the footballer is a known Barcelona fan.
He said this in an interview with The New York Times, in which he expressed that wearing the Blaugrana has always been his main goal: "It was always the team I grew up with and when you grow up supporting a team, your dream is to play for them." The Canadian, with 13 goals in 19 games, is one of the strikers of the moment and has aroused the interest of big clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
However, despite these numbers, he does not believe that it is his best season: "For me, it was my second year in Belgium. That was the season of my life." However, he cannot deny the great visibility that his goals in the Champions League against Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and Juventus have given him. "I could have scored a hat-trick at the weekend against Le Havre, but I scored a goal against Real Madrid and in two or three weeks, that will be the goal that people will talk about," admits the striker.
Despite having been playing at a high level in France for several years now, David is not a name that is being strongly linked with being one of the best in his position. He is a very talented player who is not as well-known as others, but who, at 24 years old, has been performing at a very high level for some time now. He, for his part, remains humble. "Some will say: 'Oh, he's staying at Lille, this is a relegation, he's not improving', but for me, there are always opportunities to improve," explains the Canadian.
As for his fit into the Barça system, he doesn't think there will be any problems: "I can adapt to many systems, I've played with two strikers or as a single striker, but I'd prefer to have that freedom to move around, to be a bit everywhere. In that sense, I can take the focus off myself and find the space to make the difference," says the Lille player.
See You soon! 🏐
