Some time back, I shared two parts of the Hagia Sophia Mosque side, let me give you a glimpse of the Church side of the Mosque, which is the final part of this Mosque.
Visiting the Hagia Sophia Mosque - Part 1
The Hagia Sophia Mosque - Part 2
As I mentioned in my previous blog, In the Mosque there are parts where you see presence of the Church relics, where it showcases respect and the confluence of both the religions. The Church part is well preserved and looking at it, you will be sure that this was once a Church. It showcases a culture which bridges from the Eastern Christianity and coming into Ottoman power echoing the shift of faith and power over centuries.
The key features of the Church side are the Apse Mosaics which shows Virgin Mary holding Christ child in her arms, then there are mosaics showing Angels and Saints of the era. In the upper gallery we also see a baptism site. There is a gate which is called as the Imperial gate, I suppose it must have been of a big significance in that period.
The good part is that all these mosaics have been very well preserved over the period of time with all the changes in power. I assume that since this place is now a world heritage site and lot of tourist visit preserving these must be very important for them to respect the sentiments of all the cultures. It is quite fascinating to see this religious blend which is not at all common, it is either this or that but never both when it comes to religions.
That's the Virgin Mary with Christ child mosaic art work on the wall

And Virgin Mary with the saints

This was the place for Baptism

There are lot of figures on each of the walls and not to miss the beautiful designs on the ceilings and the walls.

That's the big door made of Oak wood and brass. So huge
