Today I want to share a book that is different from most of the ones I have reviewed so far.
It is not a novel with a single protagonist.
It is not the work of one author.
Instead, it is a journey through the imagination of several Soviet science fiction writers who explored the future from very different perspectives.
When many people think of science fiction, they immediately imagine spaceships, robots, distant galaxies, or advanced technology.
Those elements are certainly present.
But the best science fiction has always gone further.
It asks questions.
It challenges certainty.
It uses imaginary worlds to better understand our own.
That is exactly what I found in The Enchanted Planet, an anthology that brings together stories by several Soviet authors, each offering a unique way of looking at science, humanity, and the unknown.
Among its pages we find stories such as:
Something Parnassian by Valentin Berestov
The Hands by Boris Romanovsky
Diogenes' Lantern by Yuri Nikitin
Thus Floods Begin by Kir Bulychev
Using Stanislavski's System by Alexander Gorbovsky

Although each story follows its own path, together they share a common spirit.
They invite us to think.
Not only about technology.
But also about memory, communication, history, ethics, curiosity, and the consequences of human decisions.
One of the things I enjoyed most is discovering how Soviet science fiction often focused less on spectacular adventures and more on ideas.
The future was not simply a place filled with inventions.
It was a laboratory where writers could explore philosophy, society, and human nature.
As is customary, I would like to share a reflection inspired by the spirit of this anthology:
“The greatest journeys are not always measured in light-years, but in the ideas they awaken.”
I believe that sentence captures the essence of this collection.
These stories are not only about exploring unknown planets.
They are about exploring ourselves.
Reading this anthology today remains a rewarding experience.
Many of the scientific questions have evolved.
Technology has advanced.
Yet the concerns behind these stories are still familiar.
How should knowledge be used?
Can progress exist without responsibility?
Will humanity change as fast as its inventions?
One of the greatest strengths of this collection is its diversity.
Every author brings a different voice, a different concern, and a different way of imagining tomorrow.
Together they create a panorama of a literary tradition that deserves to be better known.
As in previous posts, I share photos of my physical copy.
Holding this edition reminds me that books are also journeys through time.
Not only because of the stories they tell, but because they preserve the dreams and questions of the era in which they were written.

Hoy quiero compartir un libro diferente a la mayoría de los que he reseñado hasta ahora.
No se trata de una novela con un único protagonista.
Tampoco es la obra de un solo autor.
Es un recorrido por la imaginación de varios escritores soviéticos de ciencia ficción que exploraron el futuro desde perspectivas muy distintas.
Cuando muchas personas piensan en la ciencia ficción, imaginan inmediatamente naves espaciales, robots, galaxias lejanas o tecnologías sorprendentes.
Sin duda, esos elementos aparecen con frecuencia.
Pero la mejor ciencia ficción siempre ha ido mucho más allá.
Hace preguntas.
Desafía nuestras certezas.
Utiliza mundos imaginarios para comprender mejor el nuestro.
Eso fue precisamente lo que encontré en El planeta encantado, una antología que reúne relatos de diversos autores soviéticos, cada uno con una forma particular de observar la ciencia, la humanidad y lo desconocido.
Entre sus páginas encontramos relatos como:
Algo parnaso, de Valentín Berestov.
Las manos, de Boris Romanovski.
La linterna de Diógenes, de Yuri Nikitin.
Así comienzan las inundaciones, de Kiril Bulichev.
Utilizando el sistema de Stanislavski, de Alexander Gorbovski.
Cómo ocurrió en realidad, de Alexander Shaguinian.
El idioma universal, de Vladimir Osinski.
Un lugar en la memoria y El principio de indeterminación, de Dimitri Bilenkin.
El planeta silencioso, de Valentín Yuferev.
Kheops y Nefertiti, de Alexander Zhitinski.
El día de la ira y El polígono, de Sever Gansovski.
El planeta encantado, de Albert Valentino.
Aunque cada relato sigue su propio camino, todos parecen compartir un mismo espíritu.
Invitan a pensar.
No solo sobre la tecnología.
También sobre la memoria, la comunicación, la historia, la ética, la curiosidad y las consecuencias de las decisiones humanas.
Una de las cosas que más disfruté fue descubrir cómo la ciencia ficción soviética muchas veces se interesaba menos por el espectáculo y más por las ideas.
El futuro no era únicamente un lugar lleno de inventos.
Era un laboratorio donde los escritores podían reflexionar sobre la filosofía, la sociedad y la naturaleza humana.
Como es costumbre, quiero compartir una reflexión inspirada en el espíritu de esta antología:
“Los viajes más grandes no siempre se miden en años luz, sino en las ideas que despiertan.”
Creo que esa frase resume muy bien la esencia del libro.
Estos relatos no solo hablan de explorar planetas desconocidos.
También hablan de explorarnos a nosotros mismos.
Leer esta antología hoy sigue siendo una experiencia muy gratificante.
Muchas preguntas científicas han evolucionado.
La tecnología ha avanzado.
Pero las inquietudes que impulsan estos relatos continúan siendo muy actuales.
¿Cómo debemos utilizar el conocimiento?
¿Puede existir progreso sin responsabilidad?
¿Cambiará la humanidad tan rápido como cambian sus inventos?
Una de las mayores virtudes de este libro es su diversidad.
Cada autor aporta una voz distinta, una preocupación diferente y una forma propia de imaginar el mañana.
En conjunto ofrecen una excelente muestra de una tradición literaria que merece ser mucho más conocida.
Como en publicaciones anteriores, comparto fotos de mi ejemplar físico.
Tener esta edición entre las manos me recuerda que los libros también son viajes en el tiempo.
No solo por las historias que cuentan, sino porque conservan los sueños y las preguntas de la época en que fueron escritos.
