SMAP #279 Eagle Owl in Edinburgh

Intro

On a recent trip to Edinburgh while making our way up Castlehill we happened across Borders Falconry. There was quite a crowd forming, taking photos, so we decided to investigate..

Background

Turns out the team travels from their base, Falconry Borders, located near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders. They care for over 30 birds in total and when not providing mobile displays for medieval events and weddings, they spend time on the Royal Mile as an additional fundraising effort for the upkeep of the birds.

Photo Opportunity!

The idea is simple, pay a small £10 donation and they allow tourists to hold and photograph species like Gwenivere the Eurasian eagle-owl and Lenore the raven. We just so happened along when Gwenivere was on show..

What a Beauty!

Gwenivere was impeccably well behaved, she won us over in minutes. Think there is a good chance we'll be looking into a falconry day in future 🥰

I'm a first timer in Feathered Friends, be gentle lol 😇
