Hello vibes community I'm sorry I came in late this week. I planned on staying off for some time (doctor's advice) due to issues with my sight and to avoid frequent use of glasses (I use my laptop to write). But I am here today because I saw an entry and I just had to take the risk of writing a review.
So why am I here then you may ask. I was strolling through my socials, and I stumbled upon a link to a vibe entry and had to check it out but after I did, this cover sent a feeling that went through me and I had to just risk it.
Today, the cover I will be reviewing is that of @vocal.journey1. She is a lady with very nice vocals, so nice that she has always been nominated but sadly I don't think she has ever won. Mind you, this post isn't to coerce the judges or anything like that but to my honest review of her entry. She did a cover of YET by Ashley Hess and here is the entry
I have listened to some covers that will mimic the original melody by melody, but this one transforms it into something unique. The moment she started singing, it was clear that this wasn’t just a cover, it was a deeply emotional, personalized interpretation that brought something new and powerful to the ears and hearts of the listeners (I, especially). She didn't just sing the song, she lived it. Her tone, expression, and phrasing actually reshaped the lyrics into her own story, and it felt like she was taking us on a journey through her soul.
I am sure that every note she hit was definitely for a purpose. I also noticed that she lets the raw feeling in her voice do the talking without also overdoing it. If you listen well, you'll hear the shifts in melodies slow down and in some places, she holds certain notes longer than expected showing that she isn’t just covering the song, she’s putting herself in the shoes of the artist. It felt like she traveled back in time to the time the artist (Ashley Hess) got the inspiration to write this piece and she wasn't selfish, if you listen to it, she will also take you along for the journey. Writing that last line, I guess that was how she came up with the name "vocal journey"
The result?
A performance that felt intimate and real. Her facial expressions and body language showcased the emotions she was conveying, whether it's strength or quiet pain, or conviction, it all feels authentic. You can tell she connects with the lyrics personally, and that connection flows through the screen and into the hearts of anyone watching.
What makes this cover special is not just her talent (though that’s undeniable) but her ability to communicate emotion and make a well-known song feel brand new. She was not just performing or contesting, she was telling her own story through the lyrics and that’s what stood out for me.
If you're tired of the usual type of covers and want something deeper, something that will move you and maybe even stay with you long after it ends ( have been playing it over and over) this is the video to see. Don’t just hear the music, feel it.
I'm sure there are a lot more similar to this. Kudos to the judges for keeping a keen eye on every post. You guys are the real mvps.
Go on to her account and experience the magic for yourself.
Thanks for reading through, if you have listened to it, kindly drop what you think.
