What Goes Around Truly Comes Around.

in The Ink Well8 days ago

That day just started like any other, I was rushing my school in Yaba (yabatech), so I remember it was a Thursday morning and I was already running late. I had my earphones in, minding my own business, just walking fast so I would not miss the first class.

Just then I noticed something on the floor, just by the side of the road near school gate. At first, I didn’t pay attention, I just walked pass. But something told me to go back and look again. I did. It was a phone.

“What is someone's phone doing on the ground like this?” I mumbled to myself.

I picked it up, it looked clean and not cracked. But the screen was black, I tried to put it on nothing. The Battery was dead

I looked around me... Nobody seemed to be searching or even aware they had lost a phone. So I carried the phone, put it in my bag and continued going.

After school that day, I got home too tired. I just slept. The next morning, I remembered the phone. I charged it. When it came on, I checked the recent calls and dialed one number there, saved as “Aunty B.”

“Hello?” the voice said.

Me: “Hello, good morning. Please I found this phone yesterday near Yabatech gate. I’m just trying to see how to return it.”

“You serious? Jesus! That’s my niece’s phone. We’ve been looking for it since yesterday! Thank you so much!” Said the voice.

In less than an hour, the owner of the phone Blessing came to my area. She was smiling wide and so grateful.

“Thank you so much, ah God bless you,” she kept saying, holding her chest like her heart almost cut.

“No wahala,” I said, smiling small. “when it's not my phone, and I know how it feels to lose something important na”

We both laughed. I didn’t expect anything from her. I just did it because it felt right.

So Fast forward to months later.

It was exam period, and you know stress was already on all of us, that day, I came to class with my school bag, as usual, I dropped it and went out to buy snacks quickly, i didn’t carry my phone because I was rushing.

When I came back, opened my bag... my phone wasn't there

I froze.

I checked again. Still nothing. Omo.....

I started panicking. “Where my phone?” I asked everyone, already shaking. "God I hate this kind of thing o" I was saying to myself.

I searched everywhere around, turned my bag upside down. I even started crying not because the phone was expensive , but because of everything inside it. My notes, pictures, login info, memories. I sat down and just cried for almost 30 minutes.

Then one girl from class walked up to me quietly and said, “I saw one guy earlier. He was checking your bag when you stepped out , I thought maybe he was helping you check something.”

“Who?” I asked, already sniffing.

She described him. I knew him. He was in my class a very nonsense boy , I just stood up immediately and walked to where he was seated.

“Guy, where my phone?” I said, staring him dead in the eye.

“Which phone?” he replied, forming confused.

“Dont play with me abeg. I no dey okay. Where my phone?” My voice was already loud.

He started stammering, saying he didn’t know what I was talking about, But one other classmate stepped in and said, “Check his pocket.”

True true, my phone was there. Ehhhh in broad day light, the confidence he had, the effrontery.

He couldn't talk again. He started saying " Girl calm down I was only pranking you"

Me I didn't listen, I just held my phone tight and walked back to my seat. That was the most stressful 1 hour of my life I swear

Later that evening when I got home, I laid down and it just clicked karma.

The same way I found Blessing’s phone and didn’t keep it, that’s the same way someone found my own and returned it. Indirectly. It could have gone way worse. What if nobody saw him? What if I never got it back?Omo.....

That day made me believe more in doing the right thing. Even if nobody’s watching. Life will always pay you back one way or another.

Good or bad, it always comes full circle.

I won’t agree it’s a prank o, I would have plank is head.

I can imagine the kind of stress that must have build up on you during that short amount of time.

Blessing was happy, and you became happy at the end.

It's very good to do the right thing even when no one is watching you. That's integrity. What goes around sure come around and back to you in different ways. Glad you found your phone and your kindness paid off.

It did pay off thanks to God.
Yeah ... Indeed it pays to do good

Life really has a funny way of balancing things. You returned someone's phone with pure intentions, and somehow yours still found its way back to you. Karma really nor miss road. Thanks for sharing

I swear e miss road at all

there is never any harm done as long as you are doing the right thing

Of course, I know right....?

yes oh

This is life!
It has its way of making up.
When we do good it always comes around one way or the other.

Exactly it does.
