The Big House Dilemma That Made Me Rethink | LOH CONTEST #255

in Ladies of Hive11 days ago

Even though the contest has already ended, I still felt the need to share my thoughts on the topic because it really caught my attention. I had everything drafted earlier, but due to some circumstances, I couldn’t make the post at that time.

However, I have realized that sometimes it’s not just about the contest or the reward, it’s about expressing your perspective, connecting with others, and learning from different views. So, even though the contest is past, I decided to still share my entry and my take on the topic.

Hello #ladiesofhive, it's been awhile

Personally, I'm actually not a huge fan of big houses. Not that I don't like them, whenever I see them, I always admire and love how they look. It's beautiful. At times before, my expectation was always something big, very spacious.

But at some point, as I got to grow and due to some experiences my mom used to share while she was alive, getting a big house is actually not such a big deal when you are still very young. But then, how about when you are old and all the children are no longer staying with you? They have their own families. They have their own space. And it's just you and maybe your partner in this huge house. How do you want to maintain such a big house? Number one.

Secondly, when you are old, how do you want to climb stairs? Of course, except if it's not a duplex but let's be real, a very big house that's not a duplex is very rare. So how do you want to climb these stairs? How do you want to support yourself? Except if you are financially okay and can afford about one or two helps.

Or let's say you sell the big house and get a smaller one. Some people actually do this. Some people actually rent out part of the house while they stay in the other parts. But this is actually kind of risky because allowing people into your space, where you are still living can be dangerous except if there are people you can actually vouch for, or you can know their heart towards you.

Because when you tend to give some people access to your personal life or to be very close to you, they sometimes get very selfish and self centered about it and attempt to use it against you. To hurt you. Yeah.

So personally, I love big things. But with the fact that the small house is not as beautiful as the big house, I will likely go for the big house. Buy it and then renovate it to my taste.

Because there's no point getting the smaller one that is already decorated and everything, and it's equally expensive, and then I will still have to end up renovating it to my taste if it's not to my taste. So I will just get the big one and then renovate it to my liking.

So even if it's very, very big and I feel like "this is too big for me," I can just try to demolish and rebuild again. Or get an architect to break it down and divide it so that there will be no connecting access into my own personal space. So that part, I can rent it out to tenants, or I can sell that part of the land.

If it's half a plot, if it's one plot, I can sell that part of the land out. Personally, I can even use it for business. Or I might as well use it for farming and get fresh vegetables and some fruits that can actually be planted and do well in this country. I can plant some tomatoes just to make this space useful.

So whether I sell part of the land out, or I use it for my personal business like using it as a shop or office, or I use it for the house daily needs and daily consumptions like farming. Or probably for fishery, a mini fishery or a mini poultry farm.

I might as well even use it to build shops that I will rent out to people.

That's my take on the contest.

But honestly, I am really curious about you all. Like, when you close your eyes and imagine your dream home situation, what do you see? Are you the type that gets excited about picking out paint colors and watching a space transform into exactly what you have always pictured? Or does the thought of dealing with contractors and dust and delays make you want to run the other way?

I feel like this choice says so much about who we are as people. Some of us are builders, dreamers who see potential everywhere. Others are smart cookies who value their time and peace of mind more than anything else.

So tell me, what team are you on? The "let me roll up my sleeves and make this mine" team, or the "give me the keys and let me start living" team?

And hey, maybe you have got a completely different angle I haven't even thought about. Maybe you would do something totally creative that would make us all go "wow, why didn't I think of that?"

I can't wait to read all your responses. This community always surprises me with the wisdom and different perspectives everyone brings. Let's get this conversation going.

Hmm, I share similar thoughts, I admire big houses, but not a fan of them. Something cute with the needed space to keep everything simply and neat, how ever I love a big compound because I love to keep a garden and a few recreational place for family use. Well I think am team builder, even though I love to dream too, but if given the chance, I prefer to build

That is such a balanced way to see it. I feel the same, a cozy home with enough space to stay organized is perfect. Big compounds are the best for gardens and family hangouts too.

And yes, being a builder feels more fulfilling, there is a certain joy in creating something from scratch and watching it grow.

Of course, it's a beautiful feeling

A grand house is lovely but the joy is maintaining it with warmth and pride

👍👍👍
