It is Eurovision Finals tonight, so that means watching the most camp competition that has ever been created. And for those outside of Europe who don't know, it isn't about the music at all and the majority of the songs don't represent what people listen to. However, a lot of people get into it, because it is always a bit of fun to see how ridiculous some of the acts are. This year, Finland has not one, but two acts in the finals, as a Finnish group is representing Sweden, with a song about sauna culture. And the Finnish entry is dressed in bondage gear an has a song with a German name, Ich Komme.
It is all very classy.
This years competition is in Basel, Switzerland, a place I have actually been a long time ago to visit a friend who was living there at the time. It is nice to recognise locations in the cutaway shots that they show to advertise the country.
And now all 26 acts have performed, and the vote counting goes on, with people voting around Europe for their favourites, but they can't vote for their own country. Then the judges scores and the public scores provide 50% each and then the winner is announced for the biggest moment of their lives. And after this,
Most are never heard of again.
The Australian entry didn't make it past the semis. Yes, *the Australian entry in Eurovision. But hey, Israel is there too, controversially as many wanted them banned since they are at war, and Russia is banned. But, the problem with the Australian entries is that they take it too seriously, by entering actual songs. They have missed the point - the song doesn't matter, the gimmick does.
Who can win the hearts of minds of the tacky.
But it is all in fun.
And, I don't know who will win or has won, since Smallsteps fell asleep and my wife went to bed as soon as all the performers went, because she doesn't want to stay awake for two hours while they fill time with old entrants and random bits that are meant to be funny, but aren't.
I turned it off.
And as you can see from the picture above, we have a little visitor for the weekend that likes to get up much earlier than I like to. This morning it was 730 and he was raring to go. Thankfully the rule is, I don't have to walk him when he stays. Though, when we get our own sometime after summer, I feel that the rule isn't going to stick.
(I actually don't mind walking the dog)
If the weather is nice.
And since the weather will be warmish tomorrow and cloudy, I will spend it in the garden planting the various plants we bought today from the nursery. It is quite a large area and we don't have that many plants, but they will spread in time. So it is going to look weirdly bare for a year or two at least, because things grow so slowly here.
But we are on the way!
When it is done, I hope it isn't as bad as a Eurovision song.
