Yesterday was a very special day for me. I felt deeply happy, although I can't deny that I ended up exhausted. Preparing so many dishes for New Year's Eve dinner is no easy task, but it was the kind of exhaustion that is enjoyable, the kind that fills your heart because you know that all that effort has a beautiful purpose: seeing your family together, sharing and savoring every bite with a smile.
This year, my father joined our celebration once again. And not just this once, but as time goes by and he slows down, he has decided to spend every New Year's Eve with us. I appreciate being able to look after him and share these moments with him.
My husband and I got up early to make sure nothing was missing. Thanks to our advance planning, we had almost everything ready. There was just one detail left: buying the fireworks. As we do every year, we chose ones that aren't too loud, always thinking of our pets. Their well-being is also a priority for us. We prepared a quiet space for them inside the house, with soft music to relax them and make them feel safe. We know we can't stop our neighbors from celebrating in their own way, and they have every right to do so, but we also have the right to protect those we love, including our furry friends.
Before going out to buy the fireworks, I left the oven on low so that the meat would start cooking slowly. Meanwhile, my son and my father enjoyed a movie marathon, sharing laughter and camaraderie.

Les deseo de todo corazón un día maravilloso, lleno de alegría y en compañía de las personas que más quieren. Que este nuevo ciclo que comienza esté colmado de salud, amor, metas cumplidas y momentos inolvidables.
Ayer fue, para mí, un día muy especial. Me sentí profundamente feliz, aunque no puedo negar que terminé agotada. Preparar tantos platillos para la cena de fin de año no es tarea fácil, pero ese cansancio fue de los que se disfrutan, de esos que te llenan el corazón porque sabes que todo ese esfuerzo tiene un propósito hermoso; ver a tu familia reunida, compartiendo y saboreando cada bocado con una sonrisa.
Este año, además, tuvimos una vez más a mi padre que se unió a nuestra celebración. Y no solo por esta vez, sino que, con el paso del tiempo y su andar más pausado, ha decidido pasar todos los fines de año con nosotros. Estar pendiente de él y compartir estos momentos, lo valoro.
Desde temprano, mi esposo y yo nos levantamos para revisar que no faltara nada. Gracias a la planificación previa, ya teníamos casi todo listo. Solo nos quedaba un detalle; comprar los fuegos artificiales. Como cada año, elegimos aquellos que no son tan ruidosos, pensando siempre en nuestras mascotas. Su bienestar también es prioridad para nosotros. Les preparamos un espacio tranquilo dentro de la casa, con música suave que las relaja y las haga sentir seguras. Sabemos que no podemos evitar que los vecinos celebren a su manera, y están en todo su derecho, pero nosotros también tenemos el nuestro de proteger a quienes amamos, incluyendo a nuestros peluditos.
Antes de salir a comprar los cohetes, dejé el horno encendido a temperatura baja para que la carne comienza a cocinarse lentamente. Mientras tanto, mi hijo y mi padre disfrutaban de una maratón de películas, compartiendo risas y complicidad.
The weather was perfect, so we decided to take the motorcycle. With traffic so congested due to the number of tourists, it was the best option for getting around quickly and finding parking without any hassle. We went to the fireworks store, bought what we needed, and quickly returned to continue with the preparations.

Con el tráfico tan congestionado por la cantidad de turistas, era la mejor opción para movernos con agilidad y encontrar estacionamiento sin complicaciones. Time flew by. Between the final details, the cooking, the decorating, and the music, when I realized it, it was already time to take a bath and sit down at the table. Dinner was varied and delicious, accompanied by constant jokes and laughter, a beautiful energy that you only feel when you are surrounded by tenderness.
El tiempo voló. Entre los últimos detalles, la cocina, la decoración y la música, cuando me di cuenta ya era hora de darme un baño y sentarme a la mesa. La cena fue variada y deliciosa, acompañada de ocurrencias y risas constantes, una energía hermosa que solo se siente cuando estás rodeado de ternura.
As good Cubans, we couldn't miss out on a good game of dominoes. We played enthusiastically until midnight, when we made a toast to life, to dreams fulfilled, and to those yet to come.
Then we went outside to set off fireworks, played cheerful music, and stayed up talking until almost 3:30 in the morning, when sleep finally overtook us.
Como buenos cubanos, no podía faltar una buena partida de dominó. Jugamos animadamente hasta la medianoche, momento en el que hicimos el brindis por la vida, por los sueños cumplidos y por los que están por venir.
Luego salimos a lanzar los fuegos artificiales, pusimos música alegre y nos quedamos conversando hasta casi las 3:30 de la madrugada, cuando el sueño finalmente nos venció.
They were magical moments of togetherness. That's why I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share them with you, who have been with me throughout the year, being part of my daily life, even if only through words.
