Hawthorne School in Bridport, Vermont circa 1864.

This school has been restored and maintained beautifully even down to the rope to ring the school bell.

Apparently many older school houses had separate entrances for the boys and girls. They led into separate cloakrooms and the classroom was usually split with boys on one side and girls on the other. Same for the playground. Mostly this was just an attempt to keep order.

We were out looking around for owls again and failed again 🙂 we did see a bald eagle. Awesome bird and close enough to remind us how big these birds get!

We were inspired by our nieghbor, the barred owl. It was out again across the road from our house. We have seen it (or likely seen several different owls) on many different occasions this winter.

We have been driving the open, snowy fields along Lake Champlain looking for Snowy Owls or Short Eared Owls. Both come around in the winter but we haven't had any luck yet this winter.
