The translation of ПРОЛЕТАРИИ is actually "proletarians", the word that the soviets used for the social class that was hired to provide the labour power. "Workers" would be a better translation of "РАБОЧИЕ" (rabochiye - from where we have the word "robot"), which included proletarians AND people who were working in their own family business.
