Hi, friends!
Can I tell you one thing sincerely? This rally was won by the most matured driver at the moment. And yeah, Welshman Elfyn Evans really started to post some benchmarks on this year's World Rally Championship.
The only thing to be in bad mood is a fact that Rally2 cars aren't the top category of the sport. That way we could have 30 or 40 cars at every event in the top class. How can FIA be so blind?!
I know that there was a huge pressure from Hyundai not to do this but there is a strong rumor that they will leave the sport after this season. And I won't miss them to be sincere.
You know why? Because I don't like blackmails and they did this more then on one occasion. That's just not correct. They can leave if they don't want to be part of this sport anymore.
Another thing from Safari which was not cool is Takamoto Katsuta's retirement after the last special stage called Power Stage. Yeah, he pushed hard and rolled at one point of it. He retired after the stage and couldn't finish the rally. That's just part of the sport. If you try hard, there is a chance for a shunt, you can't argue against this.
Two Hyundai guys - Ott Tanak and Thierry Neuville finished 2nd and 3rd overally and showed that they won't let Evans to go to far in the Championship standings. Although Evans has the best car at the moment in his Toyota Yaris Rally1 and he is super confident right now. We will see what future brings.
Toyota's Sami Pajari showed matured drive and finished 4th overall and also Gregoire Munster finished 5th overall for M-Sport Ford.
Great event indeed and it just showed that Rally2 cars should be the top category with 30-40-50 entrants in it at every WRC event.
Peace.
