I had several ideas in mind for this theme—from characters wearing ripped jeans to forest hermits, even our Ocean Healer being attacked by sharks again—but in the end, I chose something simpler and deeper, like the feeling this word gives me when I pronounce it slowly. If we’re ready… let’s start drawing!
Hola amigos y comunidad de Holozing, espero estén teniendo un muy lindo día. Hoy continuamos dibujando y llevando a cabo el reto del Zingtober. Me encanta poder estar otro año más participando, así que vamos a seguir el calendario del Inktober para ver cuál es el prompt de hoy... y el prompt de hoy es Ragged. Tenía varias ideas en mente para este tema, desde personajes vestidos con jeans rasgados hasta ermitaños del bosque, incluso nuestro Ocean Healer volviendo a ser atacado por tiburones, pero al final me decanté por algo más simple y más profundo, como la sensación que me transmite esta palabra al pronunciarla lentamente. Si estamos listos... ¡Comencemos a dibujar!
For today’s prompt, I chose to draw Forest Healer with torn and tattered clothes, a fresh scar on her forehead, and actively using her powers. What happened was very sad—she couldn’t stop a fire in her forest, and despite her efforts, the flames took over everything. I referenced the word “Ragged” not only through her worn-out garments, but also in the background of the drawing, where an irregular tear reveals the phrase:
“The forest breathes in fragments now, its ragged canopy trembling with memories of untouched light.”
What I tried to capture most of all was the oppressive atmosphere right after the event. Her crown of branches and leaves floats above her head, partly to remind us of the innocence and joy she lost.
For this drawing, I used Photoshop and limited my palette to grayscale. I started with a sketch, choosing a frontal pose to play more easily with symmetry, and gradually added elements that define the character. I also played with values and some gradients to simulate volume.
Para el prompt de hoy, decidí dibujar a Forest Healer con ropas hechas pedazos y girones, una cicatriz reciente en la frente y en uso de sus poderes. Lo sucedido fue muy triste: no pudo evitar un incendio en su bosque, y por mucho que luchó, el fuego terminó adueñándose de todo. Hice alusión a la palabra “Ragged” no solo en la ropa hecha andrajos desgastados, sino también en el fondo del propio dibujo, donde una rotura irregular muestra la frase:

Lo que intenté sobre todo fue capturar esa atmósfera opresiva justo después de lo sucedido. La tiara de ramas y hojas de nuestro personaje flota sobre su cabeza, en parte para recordarnos esa inocencia y felicidad que perdió.
Para mi dibujo estuve usando Photoshop y limitando mi paleta a una escala de grises. Comencé con un boceto, donde decidí hacer al personaje totalmente de frente para poder jugar más fácilmente con la simetría, y fui agregando elementos que caracterizaran al personaje poco a poco. Además, jugué con los valores y algunos degradados para simular volumen.
