A mother's 18 years... and seemingly counting!

in The Publast month

I've heard people talk about their favourite podcast genres, podcasters and just how long they could go on listening to it... but it never crossed my mind to give it a whirl.

However, I listened to a podcast the night before for the first time ever, unintentionally. I just happened to stumble upon it on my Deezer app on the quest to play The fate of Ophelia by Taylor swift to see for myself, if indeed it was just as good as tiktokers made it out to be.

And while it was in play, my eyes caught the captioned album Latest podcasts for you. Unconsciously, I swiped left as more of the podcasts came into view, all categorised under different genres.

Then I spotted crimes and more specifically that of Crime junkies, tapped into their page account and their stories lined after the other literally called out to me.

Before I could say A, my fingers had clicked on the second in line and the intriguing voice of Ashley Flowers and her co-host, Brit Prawat filled my ears and whoa...

I somehow got myself glued in the same position for the thirty three minutes that followed, taking in the heartbreaking story of Leslie Brill Meserole and her 20year old daughter, Amanda Wienckowski which was only but released five days ago being the first of January.

Now you won't blame me for thinking it's recent given it's only just being aired except it isn't. This mysterious crime case occurred as far back as 2008 in Buffalo, New York and that's basically 18years ago. Guess what... justice is yet to be served.

Leslie Brill, a mother who routinely checks on with her daughter, who just happens to had been living with an older man, Adams for about three weeks then couldn't seem to get in touch with her either via texts, calls and voicemails.

Driving to the Adams' house where her daughter resided, she's rather filled in with the news that her daughter had been in another location for the past two days and gets behind the wheel yet again. Not without bringing the situation to the attention of the Buffalo police.

In this new location inhabited by a 22 year old Antoine, judging by the Adams' statement and her motherly instinct, she strongly believed her daughter was in there and did the only thing she could think of. She began camping outside the house right in her car all night.

Fast forward to a month after, she's yet to sight her daughter and just the very day she didn't wake up in her car, her daughter's frozen corpse is found in a garbage can right across the house she had been camping out.

The first autopsy which result was disputed by Leslie and the rest of the family down to the second, carried out almost a freaking year later with Leslie permission to exhume the body, coupled with the fuzzy, unmatching statements from the two males with Antoine being the top suspect, all did nothing to falter Leslie's resolve.

And up till this very day, she wants nothing but justice for her daughter's death. Talk about a mother's unending love.
This true tale of a mother's love, pain, endurance and perseverance had tears trickling down my face as I wished it was only but a fiction.

And as for podcasts, I guess I can say that marked the beginning of my legendary adventure as a podcast enthusiast. Either just crimes or I'll be generous enough to let myself explore other genres.

Thank youuuuuuuu 🤭

My wife is a big fan of true crime stuff too. She spends a lot of her time with Court TV on in the background when she is home.

Oh really? ... Seems I'm not the only one anyway 🤭.

Thanks for popping in.
