RE: EU Ecodesign Regulation Will Ban Destroying Unsold Clothes from 19th July, but Fast Fashion Overproduction Remains Unchecked

This is a topic that deserves widespread attention, so thanks for your article. Your comparison of this waste to the carbon footprint of an entire country, while perhaps an estimation, powerfully illustrates the scale of the environmental impact. My research indicates that the destruction of unsold textiles in the EU alone accounts for an estimated 5.6 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. Incredible. your point that this is a partial solution is astute. Tell me have you ever seen the film The Man in the White Suit?

Sort:

Nope I've never seen that movie!

It's a great Ealing Comedy starring Alec Guinness as a man who invents an indestructible suit, but both the bosses and the workers unite to stop it as fearful of threatening their livelihoods. Your piece put me in mind of it, it's a 5/5 for me.

Indestructible clothes, I think a lot of rich people wouldn't like this
