I agree with you on all you say and some I can relate to as well.

Our life journey is our own and we make choices along the way that is the best for us and that time.
We grow and get shaped by the experiences, the people behind us and the guidance we get growing up.
Like you say it isn't important who we most look like but what we choose to keep with us from each person or situation, choose who we want to be and where we want to go.
