The Last Flight of the Blue Beetle: My Impressions (Esp/Ing)

Recientemente disfruté la lectura de "El último vuelo del escarabajo azul", libro de crónicas cuyo autor es José Marcano Carpintero. Al conocer gran parte de las referencias que allí se presentan, me sentí representado en algunas historias y sobre todo en las reflexiones que nacen a partir del cuestionamiento a la sociedad.

I recently enjoyed reading "The last flight of the blue beetle", a book of chronicles written by José Marcano Carpintero. Knowing most of the references presented therein, I felt represented in some of the stories and especially in the reflections that arise from the questioning of society.

Entre las crónicas que más me agradaron está "Dame mis Ideas'" porque se expone parte de las vivencias de Josefina, una mujer que heredó un desequilibrio mental, y que muy a menudo dejaba de tomar sus medicamentos y se escapaba de la vigilancia de sus familiares para deambular por el barrio. La anécdota nos presenta pasajes de una mujer en decadencia debido a su padecimiento y a las penurias de su vida, que la empujaron hacia un estado de demencia aguda.

Among the chronicles that pleased me the most is "Dame mis Ideas'" because it exposes part of the experiences of Josefina, a woman who inherited a mental imbalance, and who very often stopped taking her medication and escaped from the surveillance of her relatives to wander around the neighborhood. The anecdote presents us with passages of a woman in decline due to her illness and the hardships of her life, which pushed her towards a state of acute dementia.

Otra crónica que me gustó es "Uno es de dónde lucha", allí se expone la historia de Pepe, quien llegó a Cumaná procedente de La Guaira e inició su travesía siendo taxista, luego la situación le llevó a ser empleado del "Mercadito" de su barrio donde espera resignado el final de su vejez. El implacable tiempo y la decadencia social causaron estragos en su vida sufriendo una evidente transformación, así que Pepe se presenta como un símbolo de supervivencia.

Another chronicle that I liked is "One is from where he fights), which tells the story of Pepe, who arrived in Cumana from La Guaira and began his journey as a cab driver, then the situation led him to be an employee of the "Mercadito" of his neighborhood where he waits resignedly for the end of his old age. The relentless time and social decadence wreaked havoc in his life suffering an evident transformation, so Pepe is presented as a symbol of survival.

Me sentí identificado porque el título y la crónica me recuerdan el día en que me vine de La Guaira hace 27 años atrás, decisión trascendental que me permitió cambiar de vida y establecerme en esta ciudad.

I felt identified because the title and the chronicle remind me of the day I left La Guaira 27 years ago, a transcendental decision that allowed me to change my life and settle in this city.

También en el libro se dejan entrever temas como el éxodo y sus consecuencias, la crisis económica y social en Venezuela, los estragos del tiempo y la presencia de la fe en las personas. La prosa de Marcano Carpintero además se destaca por representar una conversación, entabla una relación tan estrecha con el lector hasta el punto de hacerle creer que está ante alguien conocido que le está hablando sobre algo que presenció.

Also in the book are themes such as the exodus and its consequences, the economic and social crisis in Venezuela, the ravages of time and the presence of faith in people. Marcano Carpintero's prose also stands out for representing a conversation, he establishes such a close relationship with the reader to the point of making him believe that he is before someone he knows who is talking to him about something he witnessed.
