The historic center of the city of Cumana has always been a cultural and artistic landmark because it still preserves much of what the transition from a colonial town to a city meant. Wattle-and-daub houses with wooden roofs, old façades, the San Antonio de la Eminencia castle, the Ramos Sucre House, the Basilica of Santa Ines, The scorpion alley, and other centuries-old symbols still remain in place.
During the holiday season, on the occasion of the Nights of Yesteryear and the events scheduled to celebrate Christmas, several local artists gathered to use the walls as canvases and create colorful murals that contributed to beautifying the place.
There were several reasons for this, notably the traditions, customs, beliefs, famous people, and ethnic and cultural diversity of the people of Sucre. This initiative breathed new life into the area, a process similar to an update, because although the buildings remained the same, the design and colors that bring the local ornamentation to life were modified. In this case, the images became dynamic, and the flowers that were there before gave way to figures of people and animals in poses that suggest movement.
Antonio Jose de Sucre, Santa Ines, Cruz Salmeron Acosta, Luis Mariano Rivera, Gualberto Ibarreto, and Ramón Badaracco, among other recognizable faces, were painted for posterity, accompanied by seascapes, figures of children, and birds, which also form part of the pictorial composition.
I liked this modern touch in the decoration, which is a bit different from the usual solemn style, as it resembles graffiti, but still pays tribute to distinguished citizens of Sucre. The choice of colors certainly brings joy with its vividness, and overall I think it was a job well done, considering the length of the surface and the effect they wanted to achieve.

El Casco Histórico de la ciudad de Cumaná siempre ha sido un referente cultural y artístico porque aún conserva gran parte de lo que significó el paso de un pueblo colonial a una urbe. Esta iniciativa concedió nuevos aires a esta zona, proceso similar a una actualización pues a pesar que las construcciones eran las mismas, el diseño y los colores que dan vida al ornamento local se modificó, en este caso las imágenes pasaron a ser dinámicas, las flores que estaban antes dieron paso a figuras de personas y animales en poses que refieren movimiento.
