Reviewing Gianni Rodari's narrative has left me with good feelings because I had been exploring the children's classics, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm and by fate I came to Rodari and his very particular proposals. On this occasion, after reading three stories that I have not reviewed by this author, I will present my reflections because I consider the feasibility of masking certain opinions on politics, ideology and social criticism as literature for children.
It is difficult for children under the age of 10 to fully comprehend the interwoven elements of the story that go beyond fantasy. Let's review a bit of the language exposed and the messages underlying the three selected stories.
In Doctor Terribilis we are introduced to a deranged scientist and his assistant Farmulus, who created the atomic supercrik, a device capable of traveling into space and knocking the moon out of its orbit. Their plan is to take possession of it and ask for a reward in gold to return it to its place. So far the story combines science fiction elements that could well be in a movie, a clever and fanciful child could recreate these images with relative ease.
Reading the alternative endings, we find in one of them that the United States, the Soviet Union, Italy, France, China, Japan and other powers immediately manufactured artificial moons, so they cared little about the original moon. In the second appears an anonymous hero, Magneticus, who returns the moon to its place, but he does it secretly because he is not interested in fame. Also, in this section, we meet a thief who takes advantage of the situation to acquire easy wealth. And in the last finale, Dr. Terribilis made wrong calculations and his invention did not work.
On the other hand, Night Voices builds a story around the autidive sensibility of a man capable of listening to the cries and laments of humans all over the world. The man comes every night to solve the problems, but there comes a time when he can no longer do so because the physical exhaustion is exhausting. It is obvious the questioning of both governments and people since man helps people, but no one thanks or rewards such attentions.
The different endings leave you pondering, the first one takes us down the path of "ignoring the whining" through earplugs in his ears, because sometimes we prefer to hide unpleasant situations because we can't do anything about them. The second one states that the behavior of the man leaving his house every night is mysterious for his neighbors, who denounce his suspicious attitude and take him to jail for theft. Meanwhile, the last proposed ending points to the disappearance of needs in the world, so that the man can rest.
The last story of this selection is Magician Giro, here we meet a very particular character, a Magician who is poor because technological advances have left his skills in the background. The first ending leads us to reflect on the fact that there are still countries that do not have access to most of the comforts of the modern world. The second, places the Magician Giro as a cunning being who decides to become a merchant, sells household appliances, and becomes rich. The third takes us to the path of perseverance, the Magician decided to investigate and present a new invention.
As we have seen, the themes presented in these stories are quite profound (war, poverty, helping others, scientific discoveries, the impact of technological advances...), so we should work on them with great subtlety and present them to the children when we believe they are ready to deal with them.
Versión en EspañolRevisar la narrativa de Gianni Rodari me ha dejado buenas sensaciones porque venía explorando los clásicos infantiles, Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Andersen y los Hermanos Grimm y por obra del destino llegué a Rodari y sus propuestas muy particulares. En esta ocasión, tras leer tres cuentos que no he reseñado de este autor, expongo mis reflexiones porque considero la factibilidad de enmascarar como literatura para niños ciertas opiniones sobre política, ideología y crítica social.
Dificulto que niños menores de 10 años puedan comprender en su totalidad los elementos entrelazados con la historia que van más allá de la fantasía. Revisemos un poco el lenguaje expuesto y los mensajes que subyacen en las tres historias seleccionadas.
En El doctor Terríbilis se nos presentan a un científico trastornado y a su ayudante Farmulus, quienes crearon el supercrik atómico, un aparato capaz de viajar al espacio y sacar a la luna de su órbita. Su plan es adueñarse de ella y pedir recompensa en oro para devolverla a su lugar. Hasta aquí la historia combina elementos de ciencia ficción que bien podrían estar en una película, un niño astuto y fantasioso podría recrear estas imágenes con relativa facilidad.
Al leer los finales alternativos, hallamos en uno de ellos que Estados Unidos, la Unión Soviética, Italia, Francia, China, Japón y otras potencias de inmediato fabricaron lunas artificiales, así que poco les importaba la luna original. En el segundo aparece un héroe anónimo, Magneticus, que regresa la luna a su lugar, pero lo hace en secreto pues no le interesa la fama. También, en este apartado, nos encontramos con un ladrón que se aprovecha de la situación para hacerse de una riqueza fácil. Y en el último final, el doctor Terríbilis hizo cálculos errados y su invento no funcionó.
Por otra parte, Voces nocturnas construye una historia alrededor de la sensibilidad auditiva de un hombre capaz de escuchar el llanto y los lamentos de humanos en todo el mundo. El hombre acude cada noche a resolver los problemas, pero llega un momento en el cual no puede más debido a que el desgaste físico es extenuante. Es obvio el cuestionamiento tanto a los gobiernos como a las personas ya que el hombre ayuda a la gente, pero nadie agradece ni retribuye tales atenciones.
Los diferentes finales te dejan cavilando, el primero nos lleva por la senda de "ignorar los quejidos" a través de unos tapones en sus oídos, pues, a veces, preferimos esconder las situaciones desagradables porque nos podemos hacer nada al respecto. El segundo plantea que el comportamiento del hombre saliendo todas las noches de su casa resulta misterioso para sus vecinos, quienes denuncian su actitud sospechosa y lo llevan a la cárcel por robo. En tanto, el último final propuesto apunta a la desaparición de las necesidades en el mundo, para que así el hombre pueda descansar.
Mago Giró es el último cuento de esta selección, acá nos encontramos con un personaje bastante particular, un mago que es pobre porque los avances tecnológicos han dejado a sus habilidades en segundo plano. El primer final nos lleva a reflexionar sobre que aún existen países que no tienen acceso a la mayoría de las comodidades del mundo moderno. El segundo, coloca al Mago Giró como un ser astuto que decide ser comerciante, vende aparatos electrodomésticos, y se convierte en rico. El tercero nos lleva al camino de la perseverancia, el Mago decidió investigar y presentar un nuevo invento.
Tal como se ha evidenciado, los temas presentados en estos relatos son bastante profundos (la guerra, la pobreza, la ayuda al prójimo, los descubrimientos científicos, el impacto de los avances tecnológicos...) de allí que debamos trabajarlos con mucha sutileza y presentárselos a los pequeños cuando creamos que están preparados para abordarlos.
