Is there a difference between being popular and being famous?
While some people may confuse being popular and famous as the same thing, I think they are quite different. For me, I think popularity is when someone is being liked, admired, or enjoyed by either a specific group of persons or a community. Just like what we see in the movies, where they have the most popular students in the school.
While on the other hand, being famous has to do with someone who has widespread recognition, admiration, and most often a celebrity status. Being famous is usually extended beyond a local audience; being famous is more of a general public thing.
What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous?
Just like there are advantages to some, there are also disadvantages, and being famous isn't exempt from it.
Some of the advantages of being famous are
More opportunities: I personally think that to a large extent fame comes with open doors. When you are famous, you are open to more opportunities, new projects, and collaborations.
Having influence Being famous gives you that leverage of influencing a large number of people.
Financial benefits: Being famous has benefited some people financially, like being more exposed to endorsement deals, speaking engagements, etc.
Here are some disadvantages of being famous.
Lack of privacy: I have heard a few famous people say they wish they could go back to the days where they had privacy, where they could do things without anyone talking about it. Being famous comes with a lot of invasion of one's personal space.
Always under pressure and stress: Because they need to continuously maintain their image in the public and meet up to expectations, they are always overwhelmed.
Facing Criticism: I have seen how celebrities are being criticized and backlashed on the Internet.
When would you consider someone or something as famous?
Just like the definition of what I explained about what famous is, for me to consider someone as being famous, the person must have widespread recognition.
