The Squirrels See Pecans For The First Time...

I think they like them. 😆

I love introducing new treats for the critters in my yard. This time I offered the squirrels pecans for the first time. Squirrels are very skittish around unfamiliar things, so it was very amusing to watch them approach the newest nuts with the cutest of caution.

Eye on the prize.

What is this mysterious munchie?

My precious.

The peacns were a huge hit...at least among the squirrels. They seem to be a little too big for the chipmunks. Although I've seen them take walnuts before. Maybe the walnuts are easier to grip because the shells have ridges. Pecan shells are smooth. A couple of chipmunks showed up to the party anyway, leading to a territorial dispute.

Of course, no get-together would be complete without a bunny or two. I always try to have some blueberries on hand for such an occasion.

As I was editing the video footage for this upload, I noticed something peculiar about this rabbit. Just as it started to hop from my lawn onto my patio, it stuck it's tongue out. I've never seen a rabbit's tongue before as they don't really seem to use them very often.

After doing some research I learned that rabbits typically stick out their tongues as a way to cool down, express relaxation, or show curiosity. Any one of those reasons would make sense in this situation. Or, maybe it was just being one of those wascally wabbits.

The chipmunks must have been grateful for the new treat
Cool rabbit there

It's always fun to see how they react to something new. Thanks for stopping by.

It was fun watch them help themselves, hehe.

Thank you. 😊

Thanks for sharing the video! It's so amusing to see those squirrels being so cautious about a new kinds of nut.

One time I put some nuts in a big pile. Some of the squirrels were too nervous to take any nuts. 😂

What a delightful treat--for me. I could hear the squirrel munching. And the greedy little one who was trying to figure out how to take them all!

Rabbit with its tongue out! Wow.

A wonderful spring video. You are going to have some dramatic critter parties on your patio this summer.

Thanks. I've created quite the little scene here. I love it!
