Hello everyone,

We are in a digital world, where our gadgets are at the mercy of Codes in order for them to run efficiently, for every Hardware in computing, there is a software, which is usually made up of Codes.

In the year 2010 when I gained admission into the university, I studied computer science, hoping to see a lot of Coding but to my suprise we only learnt some few courses which are rather obsolete.
I absolutely wished I was taught programming and coding at a young age.
I know of some schools that have already started teaching their pupils some Coding. In fact the federal Government and some state governments are already doing some coding initiatives.
My big question is that: Should Coding Be Made a Compulsory Subject for Children in School?

As technology continues to shape our world, coding skills are essential for the next generation to succeed.

My answer to that question is that Coding should be made compulsory in every school just like creative arts and vocational subjects are being compulsorily added to the list of subjects in school, Coding as a child can have a lot of meaning which includes
Preparation for the Future, Coding skills are becoming increasingly valuable in the job market. I so much belief that By introducing coding in schools, we can prepare children for the future job market and equip them with the skills they need to succeed.
This leads to Develops Problem-Solving Skills*: Coding helps children develop problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and critical thinking. These skills are transferable to other areas of life and can benefit children in many ways. The creativity Enhances more importantly the order to more Creativity Coding which allows children to express their creativity and bring their ideas to life. It can be a powerful tool for self-expression and innovation. Coding Improves Digital Literacy,In today's digital world, understanding how technology works is essential. Coding can help children develop a deeper understanding of technology and how it impacts their lives.

one demerit is that Not all children are interested in coding, and forcing them to learn it may lead to disengagement and frustration.
Curriculum Overload: Adding coding to the curriculum may put additional pressure on teachers and students, potentially leading to burnout and decreased performance in other subjects.
Resource Intensive Implementing coding programs requires significant resources, including trained teachers, infrastructure, and equipment. This can be a challenge for underfunded schools.
One-Size-Fits-All Approach: Coding may not be suitable for every child, and a one-size-fits-all approach may not account for individual differences and learning styles.

A More Balanced Approach
Instead of making coding compulsory, a balanced approach might be more effective. This could include:

I think Coding can be introduced as an Elective:
Offering coding as an elective subject can allow interested students to explore coding without forcing it on those who are not interested.Integrating Coding into Existing Subjects.
Integrating coding into existing subjects, such as math or science, can help children develop coding skills without adding an extra burden.
The Government can assist by Providing Resources and Support, this can simply means Providing resources and support for teachers and schools can help them implement coding programs effectively.

In Conclusion
Coding is an essential skill in today's digital world, but to my understanding making it compulsory may not be the best approach. A balanced approach that takes into account individual differences and learning styles may be more effective.
