I guess for many, the romanticised view of Thailand is of simple huts lining palm fringed beaches as a crystal clear ocean laps gently onto a white sand beach.
However, that all disappeared years ago. Almost.
Nangkham beach lies just a couple of miles from the ferry ports that take tourists to Samui and Phangan and, whilst not specifically a destination, is certainly a popular overnight spot for people who missed the last boat. Like us for instance, on Saturday.
It's a strip of simple and cheap accomodation and despite the wind and rain was perfect. Except the crashing waves just a couple of metres from the door that kept us awake half the night!
As you can see from the photos, the rooms were simple, but functional. Kettle, fridge, TV and aircon. All the mod cons!
It was clean and cosy but a little rough around the edges but what do you expect for £20 a night?
I won't show you the bathroom! Nor the holes in the floor where some of the floorboards and rotted through!
Anyway, that was the end of our short break in which we travelled up to an amazing resort in Prachuap Khiri Khan but more of that another day.
Despite it being more Scarborough than Samui, it was still a nice, but unexpected way to end our break.
As the sun comes up on Monday morning, it's back to work and for me, that starts with getting the mop and hoover out!
I hope everyone has had a lovely break and allow me to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
