Walking through Old Havana: The Mambí Carriage on Churruca Street [ENG/ESP]

PORTADA.jpg

Hello my dear friends, I have the pleasure of joining the challenge proposed by @tattoodjay, who invites us to share our Wednesday walks.

While walking through Old Havana, I came across a hidden gem that seems frozen in time: the former train carriage of Cuban presidents, from the first half of the 20th century, now converted into a fascinating museum on Churruca Street.

The main entrance is a platform protected by a bronze railing that serves as a viewing platform; here we are greeted by the local historian, who passionately guides me through each room.

She explains that the carriage was manufactured in the United States along with two other carriages, all three identical and luxurious. One of them was sent to Cuba by Horacio Rubens, president of the Cuban Railway Company, who, after using it for a while, donated it to the island's president.

The car, which once transported the country's most powerful figures, retains all its original furnishings, from the upholstered seats to the precious wood paneling and furnishings inside.

The living room is furnished with comfortable furniture, where important decisions for the country's history were surely discussed.

I was able to see the main bedrooms, with beds that still seem to invite you to rest, separated by an adjoining bathroom. Interestingly, one room is painted blue—it's the presidential bedroom—and the second is pink, for the first lady. There is also another room with a top bunk bed, which could have served as a reading room.

The dining room is luxurious, all made of precious wood, and a glass case displays the gleaming silverware, a testament to presidential banquets. The kitchen is still equipped with original utensils. But the most surprising thing was discovering its dry ice cooling system, an advanced technology to keep the entire car cool in the Cuban heat—innovative and luxurious for its time!

As a historical fact, its first owner called it the Mambí Car because he sympathized with the independence struggles of the Mambises. He was also a friend of the Apostle José Martí and the president of the nascent Republic, Tomás Estrada Palma.

This museum is a little-known treasure, perfect for those who love history and the secrets hidden in the streets of Havana.

Have you visited this car? Would you like to see it? Tell me in the comments

See you soon!

Caminando por La Habana Vieja: El Coche Mambí de la Calle Churruca

Hello my dear friends, today I'm joining the challenge proposed by to share my Wednesday walk with you.

¿Has visitado este vagón? ¿te gustaría conocerlo? ¡Cuéntenme en los comentarios!

¡Hasta pronto!
