Hello friends, today I want to share a very joyful and fun experience we had when we visited the Feria de Línea y 18, in the heart of Havana's Vedado neighborhood.
We arrived when the sun still bathed everything in its warm, golden afternoon light; the day was about to end. The atmosphere was festive, there was recorded music playing, and some people were dancing to the rhythm of Cuban music.
But we were all waiting with anticipation because the popular singer Haila María Mompié was about to take the stage. I really like her music because she is a genuine representative of Cuban music; she gets me moving as soon as she starts playing.
When Haila appeared, with that overwhelming energy that characterizes her, the first thing she did was tell us that she was dedicating her concert to Celia Cruz, on the centenary of her birth: “Tonight is for her, for Celia, the Queen of Salsa.” It wasn't just any concert; it was a moving tribute. Hola amigos, hoy les quiero compartir una experiencia muy alegre y divertida cuando visitamos la Feria de Línea y 18, en el corazón del Vedado habanero.
Llegamos cuando el sol todavía bañaba todo con su luz dorada y cálida de la tarde, el día estaba a punto de despedirse. El ambiente era de fiesta, había música grabada y algunos bailaban al ritmo de la música cubana. Pero todos estábamos a la expectativa porque la cantante popular Haila María Mompié estaba a punto de tomar el escenario. A mí me gusta mucho su música porque es una representante genuina de la música cubana, me hace mover el esqueleto enseguida que comienza a sonar.
Cuando Haila apareció, con esa energía arrolladora que la caracteriza, lo primero que hizo fue decirnos que su concierto se lo dedicaba a Celia Cruz, al cumplirse un centenario de su nacimiento: “Esta noche es para ella, para Celia, la reina de la Salsa”.
No fue un concierto cualquiera, fue un emotivo homenaje, desde el primer momento, no solo cantó canciones de Celia, sino que cantó para ella. Cada nota, cada movimiento, estaba lleno respeto y un amor profundo.
Fue imposible quedarse quieto. La música nos hacía bailar frente al escenario. Fue más que un concierto. Fue un acto de amor a nuestra cultura, un puente tendido entre generaciones a través de la música de Celia.
