Today I bring you a book that I think you'll love: "San Isidro 1910: Alberto Yarini and His Era" by the renowned Cuban writer Dulcila Cañizares. His murder, at the hands of the French pimp Louis Letot, in the infamous brawl for control of the prostitute known as "La Petite Berthe," was not only a bloody event, but a symbolic one that marked Cuban popular culture. The work delves into the context of the "white slave trade," or the trafficking of foreign prostitutes, and the struggle for territorial control between Cuban and French pimps.
His murder elevated him to the status of a popular legend in Cuba, and his figure has become a cultural myth. His funeral was attended by massive crowds, and to this day, some Cubans visit his grave to ask for favors, considering him a kind of "saint" or spiritual guide for the forgotten.

Hoy les traigo una propuesta que se les va a encantar, su nombre “ San Isidro 1910. Alberto Yarini y su época” de la famosa escritora cubana Dulcila Cañizares. Esta autora nació en La Habana en 1936, fue una gran poetiza, editora, investigadora, periodista y hasta profesora de piano. Fue fundadora de la Unión de Periodistas de Cuba y de la Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba.
Este libro fue publicado en el año 2000 por Editorial Letras Cubanas, es una obra fundamental para entender un período crucial e importante de la historia cubana y la figura de un personaje mítico. En él la autora pretende darle respuestas a una serie de interrogantes como: ¿ Quién fue Alberto Yarini? ¿Cómo transcurrió su azarosa vida? ¿ Qué circunstancias provocaron su sórdida y dramática muerte? entre otras.
Según estudios Dulcila realizó una profunda y extensa investigación por más de 30 años, basándose en documentos de la época, archivos y la prensa, buscando desmontar o contextualizar la leyenda y ofrecer una versión documentada de los hechos.
Alberto Yarini y Ponce de León (1882-1910) es la figura central y el enigma que la obra intenta descifrar. Se le describe como un hombre dotado de gran carisma personal, ambicioso y con una gran habilidad para manipular a sus semejantes, lo cual utilizaba para alimentar su propia egolatría. Su personalidad era una mezcla rara de persona de clase alta con la actitud de un hombre de barrio. Era conocido por ser uno de los hombres mejor vestidos de su tiempo.
Su asesinato, a manos del proxeneta francés Louis Letot, en la famosa reyerta por el control de la prostituta conocida como "La Petite Berthe", no solo fue un hecho de sangre, sino un evento simbólico que marcó la cultura popular cubana. La obra profundiza en el contexto de la "trata de blancas" o el tráfico de prostitutas extranjeras y la lucha por el control territorial entre proxenetas cubanos y franceses
Su asesinato lo elevó a la categoría de leyenda popular en Cuba, y su figura se ha convertido en un mito cultural. Su funeral fue multitudinario y, hasta el día de hoy, hay cubanos que visitan su tumba para pedirle favores, considerándolo una especie de "santo" o guía espiritual de los olvidados.
Sin duda alguna esta obra caracteriza a la Cuba de aquel entonces, y por ende pone de manifiesto, los males que aquejaban a aquella sociedad movida por la corrupciòn y los vicios.
